Two sketches at the Seoul Express Bus Terminal, Banpo-dong, Seocho-gu

a sketch at the roof top garden, 10th floor, pencil, watercolor, 25 x 25 cm

waiting bus on ground, pen, watercolor, 25 x 25 cm

Today I went to the bus terminal building to have a look on the rooftop. It was not easy to look down because the fence was a little high for the safety. But the rooftop was quiet rather compared to the ground where lots of buses start and arrive. In B1 floor there is a big art material supplying shop 'Hangaram'. While sketching the first one two women of my age came to take rest with cups of coffee after mass in the small catholic church. They showed interest in sketch addressing to me. I said about the sketching, exhibition, and our activity. Of course I recommended them to visit the Topgoal Art Center. The younger lady was of my age and had studied art at university. She wanted to join us with her elder sister.
I came down to the 1st floor to see the bustling inside and outside. So many people were busy with boarding, buying snacks, having foods before getting on and after off the buses. I went out to see the bus directly and took a seat. Minutes before finishing the 2nd one an old man came to look down my sketch and sat beside me. He told me "You do well. Does it make money?" I said "Yes! Later." with laughter. He said "I'm 80 years old and a cleaner of the terminal. He liked to see drawing and said "It looks better when I see with some distance!" He was a critic at that time. Sketching made stranger become friends instantly.
