Because I had to wait for a while I sketched and washed on the sofa.

The weather was finer than the previous days though snow still remained here and there. After dropping in the framing shop near the park I went in and sketched some. On the way coming home I needed phone repair at the A/S center near the park. Sketching made me not feel tired of waiting. So I thank for the moments rather.

Last tuesday I found a nice secondhand bookstore at Jongno-2-ga, downtown street of Seoul. It located in basement near the corner of Jongno-2-ga crossing. Different from that we've known about secondhand bookstores it looked as same as big bookstores filled with new books. The interior was comfortable for visitors to sit on steps set near the entrance resting a while or reading books. I could see kids reading books on steps freely. There I sketched the above one using watercolor with pleasure.

The first catholic church built in Korea, Yakhyeon Catholic Church is an early example of Gothic architecture of the 19th century.The brickwork of Yakhyeon Catholic Church is renowned for its architectural beauty. On the occasion of the 34 Worldwide SketchCrawl we sketchers met in the precincts of the church and enjoyed sketching in and out of the historied church building all day long.

The church found on 1892 as the first catholic church building in Korea locates at Jungrim-dong, Jung-ku. The church building was burnt by arson attack on February 1998. Renovation was completed on September 1999.

In the morning it rained a little and cloudy. We went inside the office building where we could see the church through a big pane glass at the comfortable lounge. What a lucky day it was inspite of bad weather! We used the space freely. After sketching some we went inside the church building and did one for each. Every time we sketch despite of all bad conditions we get some valuable things which we never imagined before we begin. We enjoyed all the calm mood of the church and even the weather too. Thank you all!

The lower overbridge over which Naebu Circuit Road runs will be removed within 15 days, the villagers said. I tried to capture the feature of the crossroad. Villagers felt sorry about the removal anyhow because the bridge was accustomed to their lives for years.

The opposite building, Yujin Shopping arcade, was cut years ago on top stories for the Naebu Circuit Road to be able to run over the shopping arcade. People felt it very marvelous to cut a large building horizontally.

It rained a little. I sketched the northward feature under the overbridge. The mountain back is Ahnsan.

I carried a small carrier for buying foodstuffs at Inwang market and used it as an easel.

I went to Cheongryangri Market located at Dongdaemun-ku to buy some groceries. I walked from Kyeongdong oriental medicine market to feel the all the bustling of big markets. Roads were so filled with customers who came to buy foodstuffs for Lunar New Year holidays that it was hard to pass easily without touching other's shoulders. Policemen were there for helping traffic regulation. Korean people cherish ancestors with foods and memorial service. During sketching these one man addressed me. He told about that his uncle was the famous artist in Korea, "Oh Ji-ho". He told that his father was good at art too. Sketching presented an unexpected communication in such a crowded market.

Yesterday I sketched around Seoul Station where I've drawn many times. Seoul Station and the surroundings form an exquisite harmony between the old and new buildings. The more I draw on the same spot, the more I find a new angle.

At Geumsunsa we met a woman(김현주) from Netherland who was staying at temple.

Today we heard sad news from Mr. Stephen Kopp that his father-in-law has passed last night. He had planned to sketch with us last Saturday. We felt so sorry because we met his wife Susie and worried about her father. We hope his eternal peace and that they get recovered from deep sorrow soon.

We sketched at Seoul station and Geumsunsa Temple located at Gugi-dong, Bughan mountain.

The day scene was different from night. The atmosphere inside and outside would be better at night. But it seemed better to sketch at day for we could see more buildings clearly.

I could see Tapgol(Tower) Park and Jongmyo Park at left side of Jongno street. And at lower part I found the Seungdong church.

The Jongno Tower building locates in center part of Jongno street. Hwasin Department was located before at that place. The empty space at top part looks characteristic creating various scenes with the lower buildings around it. I enjoyed lunch and sketching together.

Though we've plan to sketch at Seoul Flea Market building, we visited there with KH Lee during his holidays in army. On the way coming home we dropped in the Dongmyo for drawing some. Due to the cold weather we just finished one for each. All the street from the Seoul flea market to Dongdaemun Gate was busy with customers and merchants. And we found a good place for sketching, the Dongmyo which was built in honor of the 3rd century Chinese military commander, Guan Yu on 1601, among flea market on street of Soongin-dong.

Dream Cinema is a Korean movie theater located in Seodaemun, Seoul. Originally called Hwayang Theater(화양극장), it opened in 1964 and is today the city's last remaining single screen theater. In recent years the theater has been limited to screening free previews or films that are long past their opening dates for old aged audience.

Unfortunately this theater building would be closed December 31, 2011 on account of redevelopment plan for a major hotel. But this spot will always remain a pleasant memory for us.

It passes over a lake. In winter season people wouldn't like to use it, perhaps. I couldn't see people in lift cars while I was drawing this one. Snow on southern side of the roof was melted to show the original color.

Snow remained on shade roofs and ground.

Animals such as gemsboks, zebras, and giraffes were in interior cages due to cold weather.

A few days ago I had a good chance to sketch around Oksu-dong, but it was awfully cold outdoors. At first I sketched a scenery near Oksu subway station looking out of the window at the platform by the railroadside. And then I made some sketches of Han River inside KW Jung's house to which I was invited lunch. Oksu-dong is one of the most suitable places for urban sketchers in Seoul.

After swimming I walked down to Gwanghwamun to buy some art material at Namdaemun market. On the way at Naejadong, I saw this scene. I couldn't pass over and in the middle point returned to the pedestrian road for sketching across this street. It was so cold that my fingers got numbed. But the shiny light was there contrasted by the vertical dark lines of the Integrated Govermental Building in back.

I had lunch at the Melodies, large scale food court of Kyobo Book Center. After having deliciously I sketched the bustling scene inside of the kitchen. I planned how to capture them while having Gimbab(rice wrapped with black laver within which kinds of vegetable were put in the center) with hot soybean sauce soup.

It took one hour from Oksu Station to Yongmun Station by subway. KW Jung, HS Song and I kept sketching people in subway. We had hot soup and rice as lunch in temperorary snack booth and had other delicious snacks of course in the afternoon. We bought cheap and fresh vegetables after sketching. Thank you!

I kept sketching vehicles on streets. The market was lively with customers and merchants as always. Capturing the sceneries with withered awnings in old markets was very exciting too.

경동시장으로 가는 버스의 앞자리에서 창으로 보이는 자동차 오토바이들의 재미난 모습을 내내 스케치했어요. 참으로 역동적이지요. 쉴새없이 움직이며 다양한 모습이 연출되는 것이 사직동에서 제기동까지 도착하는 40분 가까운 시간이 전혀 지루하지 않았구요. 시장...더 말할 필요도 없는 삶의 원천같은 곳이구요!

The market was always crowded with merchants and customers from all over the city, nearly all over the nation, I guess. I bought some kinds of vegetable and dried jujube for tea.

Wandering around the market seems to give a lot of energy to live.

In the afternoon we went to the beautiful church. After sketching moved to Deoksu Palace which was closed on Monday. There we drew the sceneries despite of cold weather. He'll return to the army. He loved the panoramic scenery from the city hall and to the Plaza Hotel. He said that he would draw the scene later in different sized paper to fill enough. So I said to him 'How lucky we're to live in Seoul!'.

I've sketched around Seoul Station from time to time for several years. Every time I sketch, I used to light upon the new sceneries to my taste. It's very interesting to sketch the old and new building complexes with crowded people such as Seoul Station. I'll continue to sketch such subjects in my spare time.

We met these guys from Indonesia at the foreground of the Mosque. They came to Korea as trainees of Samsung company in Indonesia. After talking at mosque we met again in front of an Islamic restaurant. I told them about urbansketchers.org and game him a piece of catalogue of our exhibit. I'm sure he'd visit our blogs, especially Indonesian artists' blogs too. Nice to meet you Palti and Dimas!

I saw this flower in the corner of botanical garden. The shape was perfect to appreciate. Visitors seemed to know the name. They were fond of my drawing too saying 'The picture looks better than the real one.' How can it be! The natural feature is the best and perfect.

Yesterday we sketchers met at Yongsan Electronics Shopping Mall that is the largest electronic shopping complex in Korea. The weather was cold and windy to sketch outdoors.
At the beginning I sketched on the concourse in front of the Terminal Mall and afterwards went into the indoor lounge of that building connected to Yongsan Station. Numbers of buildings with crowded people are very interesting subjects wherever we go.

Seoul sketchers(KW Jung, HS Song, and BH Yoo) enjoyed a beautiful autumn day at Children's Grand Park today. We sketched here and there including animal in zoo and had delicious lunch prepared by KW Jung under the warm sunlight in front of botanical garden. On the way coming home I dropped in amusement park near the rear entrance, where rhythmical music sounded. I found the colorful awning over the 'Crazy Dance' ride. Hearing light music I captured randomly while it was going round. I got energy for sketching together on a wonderful day! Thank you so much!

오늘 어린이대공원에서 서울 스케쳐 두 분(정선생님, 송선생님)과 즐거운 스케치를 했습니다. 날이 예보와 달리 그렇게 춥지 않아서 정선생님이 준비해오신 점심을 따뜻한 햇살아래서 즐겁게 들었습니다. 집에 오는 길에 놀이동산에 들러서 한바퀴 보니 입구 오른쪽에 노란 천막이 눈에 띄여서 그렸어요. 그 때 막 돌아가는 때라 정신없이 몇개 그리고 파스텔로 마감했구요. 놀이동산은 언제나 즐거운 곳같습니다. 동심으로 돌아가게만드는... 오늘 감사했습니다.

A bazar was held in the foreground of the building for fundraising which would be used for poor villagers. Most of the visitors were the trainees of classes or swimmers. I had Chungmu Gimbab(rice wrapped by black laver) and a piece of chicken skewer. And sketched the exciting scenery. One of the staffs said it was the first time held in the center.

Korean Style Houses remained, surrounded by new buildings at Sajik-dong, next to the Chongro Culture & Gym Center. The roofs seemed to be repaired temporarily waiting to be redeveloped soon. pen, 18 x 25 cm

Walking to the Cheonggyechun to sketch the Seoul Lantern Festival I saw the home-delivery service man who was resting for a while leaning to his motorbike. After I finished the drawing I talked with him for a while asking him to hold the sketch book to take a photo. I thought he was a young guy looking back of his feature when I was sketching. I asked him whether the attire was a uniform of his company. He denied and added that he wore the leather jacket for protecting himself not to be hurt by any accident. I told him that he looked so nice and wished his safe running.

Seoul City is holding the Seoul Lantern Festival on the stream of Chunggyechun from Nov. 4, to Nov. 20, 2011. I sketched two kinds of animal, rabbit and mouse. It's said that there many kinds of lanterns produced from Korea, Japan, Philippines, and so on are exhibited. All the lanterns will be lighted from 5 pm to 11 pm. It looked so great when the lanterns were lighted on last Saturday evening. I could see after the last sketchcrawl at Noryangjin Fish Market on the way of going home. You can see more here.

Yesterday the weather was clear and so warm for November. We Seoul sketchers met at 'Meeting Place' at Noryangjin Fish Market which is an extensive farmers fish market in the neighborhood of Noryangjin-dong in Dongjak-gu, Seoul. We drew various sceneries around fish market and had a delicious lunch time with animated conversation about 'Urban Sketchers' all together. I sketched some attractive old-fashioned buildings here and there with watercolors. It was very delightful Saturday indeed.

Weather was very good for sketching; shiny, warm, and above all not rainy different from the forecast report. All the market was bustling with customers and merchants. Every participant captured characteristic subjects of his or her own. And we could sketch the fish stores from the corridor of 2nd floor which was connected to the Noryangjin subway station. At one o'clock we had very delicious and plentiful lunch at a fish restaurant on 2nd floor, about which we owed JW Park much thanks. On the way of sketching the woman along the wall of the narrow alley a young lady showed interest in our activity. We talked over the sketching and sharing opinions. She hoped to join next sketchcrawl with her child. Thank you all for the sincerity and arduous job you did in such a crowded place, one of the most big markets in Korea, perhaps!
