Last Saturday, for the 65th World Wide SketchCrawl event, Seoul sketches gathered to sketch on the Ogansugyo Bridge around the DDP(Dongdaemun Design Plaza).
It was a pleasant but rather chilly day. Although only a few members participated, the sketching subjects were always diverse and rich, so it was a good atmosphere for sketching. DDP is famous for its huge architecture as a new tourist attraction in downtown Seoul. Since I have often sketched here, all the scenes are familiar, but the colorful architecture of various scales and vibrant streets are always renew my mind.
I drew various commercial buildings around Cheonggyecheon in the morning. And after lunch, I sketched new scenes with the huge landmark DDP of Dongdaemun.
The area around Dongdaemun History & Culture Park, which contains the history of Seoul's life culture, is an excellent place to provide vivid scenes to Seoul sketches all the time. My posting is late because I traveled abroad right after this sketching event.

It was somewhat cold all day. But all the area was alive with visitors. I began sketching on the Ogansu bridge of Cheonggyecheon. Things to draw were endless. The man on the motor bike showed interest in drawing telling why he became to draw left side though he wanted to draw the right. I couldn't answer for him. After lunch I walked into the DDP. which was crowded with people for the architectural fair or music performance. Visitors seemed to enjoy talking with friends enjoying the autumn weather. As it always has been time was short. Leaving objects to be captured for next visits we finished October sketch meetup. Thank you for joing us!

I have been skeching the DDP(Dongdaemun Design Plaza) building for years. DDP is located at Eulji-ro, Jung-gu, which is huge and unique landmark in Dongdaemun History & Culture Park. Yesterday, usk Seoul members had sketch meeting along the Cheonggyecheon Stream that runs to Dongdaemun Gate. The weather was so hot and humid, I sketched DDP building and surroundings looking down at the top of the 13th floor inside of DOOTA building across the road. So I could see more elements at the same scene that I sketched before. I worked one piece in watercolors and another in 4B pencil having a different feeling. Thanks to all the participants in the hot weather.

Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) is located in the center of Korea's trendy Dongdaemun fashion district. DDP was designed by Zaha Hadid, the world's architect, and opened on
March 21, 2014. It will serve as a key venue for design-related shows and conferences, exhibitions, and other events and gatherings. The external appearance of DDP is beyond anyone's expectation. That looks like a fantastic spaceship with free-flowing curved forms. Recently, I used to sketch this attractive subject several times while under construction, and always impressed by the powerful, curving forms of gigantic buildings.
Last Saturday, I sketched the atypical forms of elongated structures in many points with Seoul usk members.
.

June sketchcrawl at Dongdaemun Design Plaza

I sketched the street scene as soon as I got off the bus looking at the DDP across the broad road. Big and dark objects seen behind the flags is DDP. It looked like space vehicles landed in downtown.

Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) opened on March 21, 2014 after years of construction since September 1996. There were lots of discussions about the characteristic design of the building designed by Zaha Hadid at the area of stadium. Beyond the arguments about the proper purposes and usage of the gigantic buildings we, Seoul Urban Sketchers, had exciting time for sketching in many points in and out.
Welcome new comers! ; Yang Young-seon, Kim Youn-hee, Kim Kyung-hee, Lee Weon-seok, Han Joung-hwa, Also thank you all the participants: YH Lee, SH Kim, HJ Kim, KS Song, YS Yun, KO Kwon, Lucy Baik, BH Yoo.
