We had a meeting last Saturday. Though we couldn't gather in a massive group it was a happy time after months since last April. And we were glad to see Daniel Thomas Faller again. He came from Switzerland and had interest in Korean culture and our sketching group.

The weather was really fine with light blowing. The allies and streets were not busy with travelers because of COVID. But we felt sorry to see vacant shops with "For Rent".  We started sketching at the meeting place with benches under shadow of big trees. Lots of sketchers gathered to share greeting and departed soon to their sketching places at Myeongdong. Offline sketching made us feel alive.

Hope this pandemic to be ended as soon as possible and see you all!

Last Saturday, the 57th World Wide SketchCrawl clashed with USK Global 24hr Sketchwalk, celebrating 10 years of Urban SKetchers. The weather was fine to sketch the hustle and bustle of Seoul. We urban sketchers promised to have free sketch time for themselves around Myeong-dong and the surroundings. All the sketchers dispersed and drew here and there from morning to the afternoon. Then we met at 4:30 pm at the main hall on the 1st basement floor of Myeong-dong Cathedral, and appreciated many of our works, sharing pleasure with one another.
I've sketched a lot of the scenes around Myeong-dong and the surroundings long before, so I could easily sketch the scenes of the famous places which are familiar to me. I started sketching the Bank of Korea Money Museum, Namdaemun Market and Myeong-dong street, looking down from the 7th floor of Lotte Young Plaza department. After lunch, I sketched the colorful buildings in the heart of Myeong-dong street viewed from the Baerongnamu Cafe on the 12th floor rooftop garden of UNESCO House building. Then I moved to Myeong-dong Cathedral and sketched evening scenes of the cathedral building. We had a good sketching celebrations at Myeong-dong Cathedral!

Urban Sketchers Global 24hr Sketchwalk and #57th World Wide SketchCrawl around Myeong-dong

I started sketching at small space(traffic island) in front of big department, Sinsegye and the Bank of Korea. There were bicycles for citizens for free. Peoople could use any time. I saw people came to use it and bring back after use.

the Bank of Korea

Namdaemun Market began to be busy though it was before noon. In front of Samick Fashion Town an advertising guy who was wearing Korean traditional clothing for catching eye of customers kept shouting "Visit the shoe shops in this building!"

a scene at Namdaemun market

It was fresh to see resting stools for tired shoppers at Young Plaza, Myeong-dong.

In busy downtown such as Myeong-dong it's very rare to find this kind of rooftop garden, 12F of UNESCO House. The place was changed from machinery room into roof garden. It's a very calm and nice place to look around the urban scenery having tea in and out of Baerongnamu Cafe.  24.5 x 31 cm

We displayed our works at the '1898 Myeongdong Cathedral'.

Myeong-dong may be the commercial center of Seoul. It's crowded with visitors. It's always crowded with people. You can guess by the location of big departments such as Lotte, Sinsegae and Namdaemun market, the Bank of Korea, Korean Air Lines, cathedral church and so on. We sketches this area several times. But there are lots of subjects untouched still. Buildings keep remodeling. We will love to go there any time for capturing new hot features.

Thank you all the participants in spite of cold weather!

Last Saturday, for the 53rd World Wide SketchCrawl, we Seoul sketchers gathered around Myeong-dong which is one of the most famous tourist attractions. We met and sketched at the Baerongnamu Cafe on the 12th floor, rooftop garden of UNESCO House building. After lunch, we moved and sketched freely here and there near Myeong-dong Cathedral.
I sketched some colorful sceneries around the cafe and the fascinating Myeong-dong street. It was such a nice autumn day!

#53rd World Wide SketchCrawl, Myeong-dong

Myeong-dong cathedral with Namsan Tower in the background. This was my first experience drawing with fellow urban sketchers and I highly enjoyed it.

A view of the Chinese school in Myeong-dong. We started the day at a beautiful rooftop cafe that had many great views over the nearby shopping distract.

Everyone collected their work together at the end of a great day. We were really lucky with the weather and there was plenty of inspiration around. I would highly recommend coming along for the next SketchCrawl Seoul.

It was very fine neither hot as of last summer nor cold or windy. 10 sketchers gathered including five new comers. We started at the Baerongnamu Cafe located at the 12th rooftop garden of Korean National Commission for UNESCO(유네스코한국위원회). Myeong-dong is one of the most frequented downtown in Seoul where lots of tourists visit to see and experience lively mood of Seoul. There the building stands in the busiest street. But the rooftop garden has somewhat different atmosphere by seemingly natural feature though it was artificially cultivated. Nobody would imagine how the machine room was changed into such a nice space.
After having lunch we kept sketching here and there. On the way to the cathedral I found a big bazaar was held at the ground of cathedral. People were busy to see and buy goods. I sketched two seated on chair comfortably. Because the church is beautiful and historical it's loved by newly wedding couple for taking photos. While drawing the church a couple was posing by the order of photographer. I captured them too.
At 3:30 we met at the backyard to see our works. Sharing and appreciating was there.

Participants : Lee Yong-hwan, Yun Young-sook, Lee Joung-sook, Kim Yeon-jae, Yoo Byung-hwa, new comers - William, Yun Hyang-ran, Park Ha-young, Park Hyoun-sook, Yi Ji-hyun.
