believers of different religions at different places

Buddhist nun with her phone at a bus, chalk, A 4

Female believers were arranging flowers at an altar of the Jongro Catholic Church located at Jongro 4 Ga, Seoul. pen & soft pastels, A 4

On the way going to Dongdaemun Market I sketched the above ones. At church they were busy with their work and didn't prohibit me to draw inside the church. Looking at the beautiful flowers and smelling the fragrance was another present beside the drawing.

sketches on a hot autumn day, Sept. 2, 2011

trees at Daehagro(University street), Dongsoongdong, Seoul

building at Chongro 5-ga, Seoul

a girl in blud dress at a bus
pencil(4B), chalks, A 4 sketchbook

I had some business in Daehagro. I walked all the street of Daehagro to Chongro 4-ga sketching here and there. Even it was so hot but the streets showed some distinctive beauty with leaves of trees in streets. On the way coming home I sketched a girl and finished with chalks in the bus; it was possible!

on a hot day at Yeonheedong

There are famous restaurants at Yeonheedong. I went to have Naengmyun(Cold Noodle) at one of them. Before entering the restaurant I sketched the above one using pencil and chalks putting my sketchbook on the pocket for free newspaper, which was very useful.

I sketched her who was busy with her mobile phone at subway using pencil (7B).
She was so absorbed in her mobile that I could sketch well.

sketches around Gwangwhamun

at street of Kukidong

national flag at Sajigdong

blue building at Sajigdong

shoe-shiner at Gwangwhamun
pencil, pen, chalks, A 4 sketchbook

The blue building which I drew using watercolor before looks very nice to me. This time I used chalks. And I began the bottom one when the shoeshiner was away. While drawing it he came back so I added him. He didn't feel bad about sketching him while some  didn't permit to draw the scene. Before I finished this he went away carrying the shined shoes to the owners. How he worked merrily smiling, I felt glad too.

backside of the building 'MESA'

27 x 38 cm, chalk, charcoal

Passing the Namdaemun street I saw this building next to Saerona Department. A lot of air conditioner outdoor units on the backside of the building "MESA" caught my eye. I tried. But it was hard to draw stairs and units. I'd like to draw with watercolors next time.

view toward Namdaemun from Namsan Circuit Road

32 x 44 cm

How exciting to find nice views for sketching in the center of Seoul! Walked from the middle level of Namsan Circuit Road down to Namdaemun(South Grand Gate). Hope to sketch all together next month there! Though I've been living in Seoul over 50 years I'm surprised at finding the hidden places here and there. Very thrilling like a treasure-hunting game!

'Areum Teul' Restaurant on campus, conte, 44 x 31 cm

right side of Music Hall on campus, pencil, watercolor, 44 x 31 cm

The campus was very quiet and beautiful with flowers. Old and new buildings in campus seemed balanced well. Many families enjoyed the sceneries taking photos.

Sketchcrawl at Jeongdong with Steve from Sydney

Part of Turtle ship of Baek Nam-jun, Video artist, in an exhibition at Gwanghwamun Square, Seoul. You can see more at this blog.

As soon as I touched the brush on paper the water became frozen leaving interesting pattern.

At the Jeongdong Church I tried the geometric shapes made by different roofs of attached buildings of church.

At Baejae building, I caught the reflected image on a glass wall of Baejae building.

Steve, Susie and Lee Yong-hwan posed in front of King Sejong Statue at Gwanghwamun Square.

Though the weather was so terribly cold, we enjoyed the meeting and sketching. Steve wanted to have another sketching with Seoul sketchers before his leaving. Hope to see you then.
