sketches around Kyobo Bookstore, Gwanghwamun, Seoul

An old man was reading a book at the bookstore for a while. It's nice to look at people reading books. pencil, A 4

In cafeteria, 'Melodies', located at the corner of the bookstore I could see several men were having their brunch around 11 o'clock. pencil, soft pastels, A 4

At Susong-dong not far from the bookstore I captured the frontal scene of a small coffee shop, Cafe Shade Tree', across the way. pencil, soft pastels, 37 x 26 cm

View from the restaurant 'Top Cloud', the 33rd floor of Samsung Tower Building is always fantastic. pencil, 26 x 37 cm

Though it was blowing and cold, sketching never made me feel tired. Thank you KW Jung for sketching together and the delicious Korean pan cake 'Bindaetteok'.

Last Saturday, we Seoul sketchers visited to Ssamzigil in Insa-dong. The Ssamzigil is a square building, not a street. It has four floors and is consist of a Korean rice cake shop, a paper hanger, an antique shop and Korean restaurants, etc. It's a quite low rise structure made out of concrete, metal, glass and wood definitely feeling modern yet warm and approachable by having open ramp style passage ways with a very slight slope. It is seen as a Korean culture complex, what is more it's so unique and has set a sort of new direction for good old Insa-dong.
The weather was so fine and we amused ourselves by looking on the variegated sceneries and sketching here and there in the fantastic building. Welcome to join the USK Seoul, Bahk Joung-yeon and Han Jeong-seon!

Folk dancing musicians were playing at the Insa street for celebrating the 2nd Hamyang Int'l Wild Ginseng Day.

Mr. Lee Jeong-woo (florist, interior designer), was a very kind man. He liked us to draw his flower shop and offered several cups of hot coffee. Thank you so much!

YH Lee sketched his portrait and presented it to him.

Today two young women, Lee Joo-yeon, Lee Chae-myeong, joined us too. The building is so interesting with long sloping corridors, roof garden surrounded by delicious eating houses. In front of a dimsum house a group of people were waiting for their turn to buy.  The weather was just fine. On the roof garden we departed promising to meet again.
Really we thank you all for participating in.

at my village

The house at Gugi-dong, which I used to draw just before I got on the shuttle bus,
pencil & watercolor, 30.5 x 22.9 cm

Today I left my house 30 minutes earlier than usual in order to sketch with watercolors. It took less than 40 minutes. The sunlit orange color and white walls are always attractive.

I went to coffee shop 'Angel In Us' around Gunguk University. While waiting for friends to come, I sketched the inside scenery of the cafe. After they came in I showed this sketch they said 'marvelous!'. Participating in sketching I became to spend the little time effectively.

on a warm day at Jongno Culture & Gym and Cheongryangri Market

at the side entrance of the Jongno Culture and Gym, charcoal, A 4
I could capture a new scenery which I've used to pass by.

The blue building located near the Sejongno Catholic Church had been catching my eyes always whenever I had passed it. The composition at the bottom of which Korean traditional house remained out of redevelopment of the area looked different from the usual spots where I'd sketched before. I drew this one in front of the main gate of Sajig Park, Sajig-dong, Jongno-ku, Seoul.

On the way going to Cheongryangri market I sketched the woman at bus. She offered her seat to an old woman. How kind she was!

I took a seat at the market, so big...to capture would never be possible.
Always bustling, being crowded, lively.........

He was cutting the half-dried pollack to his customer.

I drew one more being caught by the sunlit scenery full of energy.
How convenient was it to use soft pastels and charcoal instead of watercolors!
I love both the material and the scenery.

at Myungmul Street of Sinchon near Yonsei University, Seoul

pen, A 4
KH Lee said : I had a promise to meet friends at Starbucks in Myungmul Street in the afternoon. While waiting for them to arrive at I started to sketch the scenery seen through the window. I found that it was a useful time to sketch something even for a while. Rather I feared them to come earlier before I finished.
