Streetlights near Gangnam Station

Streetlights near Gangnam subway station was beautiful.  The sun was setting, light scant.  The long, dusk sun made the streetlights resemble seagulls in procession.  It also reminded me of the highways in LA.  The drawing came out a bit darker than I'd hoped, but next time, I hope I can experiment with different pencils.

Unification concert for healing injury of division in country

15 x 21 cm

There was a small concert at Children's Grand Park in the afternoon (3:00 - 5:00 pm) yesterday, Oct. 30, 2012. While I was sketching one in the plaza of the main gate I heard some music sound. I went in and sat on chair. It was supported by Konkuk University. The players were North Korean defectors and performed pansori, small Haefeum, chorus, dance, and singing. Audience was very pleased with music and dance in the park of Autumn. I was too.

Jazz musicians

So beautiful autumn around here in Seoul Korea. Last weekend me and my friend met to sketch near my house. We've met the plaza of Seoul Museum of History. Lot's of activities went on that day.
There was a jazz concert too. Jazz band with 12 brass, key board, drum and  more. Specially echo sounds was so nice beacuse the hall was so spacious and  has high celing. All players looked enjoyed much themselves. I immediately started to sketch them as quick as I can. It's was very fun to do it. When swing rhythm came, all of a sudden two young audience came out and danced. Wow~! They were really good at this and gave us so much fun. So happy day for them. So was I. And here are some of them.

I was with my friends in our club's office and I sketched everyone studying.

Oikos

My church small group met up. This was my first time drawing people in secret.

Piano

One of my closest friends likes to play piano, and one day she played for me at church. I sketched her without her knowing and added the colors back at home.

Michelle Hahm from USA is an exchange student of Ewha Womans University. She'll stay here till June next year. She hoped to sketch together if possible. Thank you, Michelle! See you soon.

sketches walking at Seoul Fortress Wall from Changuimun to Sukjeongmun

pen, sepia conte in holder, pastels, A 4

Today I walked Seoul Fortress Wall. I chose the Changuimun Gate - Sukjeongmun Gate section because it was the nearest one from my house. Weather was fine but it was blowing a little. The road along the wall was refurbished well with wood steps and observatory platforms. I sketched three. The scenery was beautiful with mountains and sunlit villages glittering like jewels. Just beautiful!

It was a terrific day, with lots of people, tourists and locals, gathered about the Seoul city plaza.  In the first one, I tried to express the slight fogginess in the air -- despite the weather being clear -- and the crowdedness of the buildings.  In the second, I tried to show the height -- the authoritative stance --of the Seoul Plaza Hotel among other buildings.  In the last sketch, I tried to capture quaint quality of the alleyway/buildings made of bricks around the Jeongdong neighborhood.

It was a real fine Autumn day. The streets and Seoul plaza were bustling with people and sounds from event(Seoul Art Festival) on Seoul Plaza and the changing ceremony of guards at Deoksugung Palace, etc. Seoul sketchers, Lee Yong Hwan, Jung Kyoung Won, Hwang Hwa Sook, Mun Sang Hee, and Yoo Byung Hwa, enjoyed the beautiful streets and sketching together. As always time was too short, things to capture were too many. Thank you all!
