Sketches at the children's Grand Park
The weekend's Neung-dong Children's Grand Park
was very crowded and noisy as usual .
But sketching is always fun anytime anywhere.
Last year, we had the meeting of sketches here ,
I had a hard time of drawing animals because of
sunshine and crowds.
So, l searched for the shelter of tree to draw the
landscapes instead of animals.
But I realized again that there is no easy thing in
the world .
I substitute animals drawings for last year's.
Sketches at the Children's Grand Park, Neung-dong, Seoul
Beautiful scenery with Baerong tree(Lagerstroemia indica) in full blossom in front of main gate of the park, pen, watercolor, 28 x 37 cm
While waiting for members to come, this tree caught my eye. When I was young same kind was there at my home. Seeing the flower, drawing it all the memories with my parents who'd passed flashed back.
There locates a modern architectural building designed by Architect Na Seong-Jin. The original use for golf course was changed into multi public purposes for citizen. But the structure looks very attractive always. pen, watercolor, 28 x 37 cm
After sketching the above I captured a scene of family picnic seated next to mine with brush pen and watercolor. A 4
Near the food court in front of botanic garden people take some rest after lunch. Trees, sunlight, shadow and kids with their family made a picture itself. pen, watercolor, 28 x 37 cm
Kids may like the elephant the most. The cage is always crowded with visitors. I saw the big structure with miniature of elephant on top. Big awning for the elephant looked good too. Without shining light how could I make this drawing? I felt warm with people.
pen, watercolor, 28 x 37 cm
Before ending this sketching I couldn't help dropping in the amusement park. It was full of exciting scream and sound. Parents were resting under big awning. Kids were always happy in such area. I thought of my days of long, long time ago. brush pen, watercolor, 37 x 28 cm
It was really fine day. I think every body would enjoy the nice weather and sketching together. Hope all to keep sketching with interest and courage. Thank you all!

(Children's Grand Park)
It was my first experience of urban sketching. I truly enjoyed it ♡
I really like to draw traditional korean buildings but It's a little bit complicated to understand how to draw. I need more practice about this kind of structure.
Next time I would try to use more a bigger sketchbook and a full range of watercolor palette. It will be fun!

Sketches at Jeong Dong, Seoul
This Tuesday we had an occasional meeting .
I joined sketching after lunch because I had
a weekly class every weekdays .
It was not crowded on a weekday, and it was
a perfect day to draw. Above all, there were so
many things to draw around Deoksu Palace.
I was a little ashamed not to know exactly the
history of the buildings...

Deoksu Palace and Pai Chai school in Jeongdong
USK Seoul in Deoksu Palace and Baejae Jeondong, Seoul, South Korea with Nancy from BC, Canada.
Jeonggwanheon: The meaning of this name is "the place to watch the garden silently"
So, we need to be quiet in this place, but kids and students were unspeakably chatty as usual.
Pai Chai School Museum: It was the first modernized school established by Henry Gerhart Appenzeller in 1885. It's been more than 100 years and hope this building remain safely forever.
The Korea Independent Newspaper site in Pai Chai school
I googled it, however, it may not be the exact site of the building.
The Korean Independent News paper established in 1864 (~1951) by JaePil Seo.

Due to the bad right hand wrist, I had to use oil pastel most of the time. Anyway it was quite pleasure to draw together and especially special guest Nancy from BC, CANADA. Hope to see you again someday!
(21*50cm, pen and coloured pencils)
(21*25cm, brushpen)
(24*32cm, pen and watercolor)

.
Yesterday, the weather was so fine to sketch under the autumn sky. We Seoul urban sketchers including a foreign new comer, Nancy Ho, met together around Deoksugung
Palace and had a good sketch time all day. Deoksugung Palace is one of the most famous attractions for Korean traditional palace with history in downtown Seoul. The palace sits alongside a series of modern style buildings that add to the uniqueness of the surrounding scenery. We sketched the colorful traditional buildings inside the palace through the morning, and after lunch we moved to Jeong-dong adjacent to the palace. There are a lot of attractive subject matters for sketching such as beautiful stonewall walkway, various church buildings, museums, modern architectural properties and the traditional festivals for many tourists and visitors. I liked such subjects and enjoyed sketching around Jeong-dong for a long time. I sketched lovely scenes in historic downtown Seoul with a peace of mind as ever.
