sketches / pencil & gel pen

a boy handling his mobile phone after swimming before going home

a common mart at Naejadong where I found many geometric elements

readers at Kyobo Book Center, 13 x 18 cm sketchbook
Sketching tools were simple such as pen and pencil. Walking down to Gwangwhamun I saw the GC Mart with green awning and green watermelons on cart. Drawing with pen I could feel like that I was making a print work - etching. Large book center provided a good shelter for people to read books in cool space.

People Sketches from Kunming

씩씩하게 잘 돌아왔습니다!!

Kunming, China is amazing city with dynamic contrast of lives. I was lucky to see various parts of the city. Here are some sketches from a wet market(시장), which is like farmer's market in the U.S..

Actually these pieces are from the beef wholesale market right by the wet market. We visited there before noon, but they were already closed in early morning. Just a few people were working on their meat. Three kids were running on the empty meat tables and were very interested in the tourist-looking visitors.

Various types of Campus building

Student building, Sookmyung Women's University

Museum, Sookmyung Women's University

Welch-Ryang Auditorium, Ewha Womans University

Business School, Sungkyunkwan University

Faculty Hall, Sungkyunkwan University

Science Library, Korea University

Museum, Sejong University
.
In our city life, a lot of campus buildings around us are very interersting subjects for the urban sketchers. On the campus everywhere, we come to meet not only plenty of objects of drawing, but of architectural various types.

The old and new buildings are harmonized each other well. And what's more, these structures are located on Sejongno, right in the heart of downtown Seoul.

Namsan is well-known as a celebrated mountain in downtown Seoul. The mountain and surrounding area is a public park maintained by the city government. It is a popular spot for a panoramic view of Seoul. Moreover there are a lot of interesting subjects for sketchers at the change of seasons. I sketched diverse sceneries walking along the Namsan Circular Road halfway up the mountain.

Itaewon, Seoul

the population of the district is very diverse, people openly walk around the streets without anticipating other people's long stares, regardless of their racial and/or religious and/or sexual orientation. love the cultural tolerance.

sketchcrawl at Chungryang ri

For this one I might have to explain a little bit. This isn't surrealism, it's actual scenary if you are nearsighted(badly) and observe the square with bare eyes for a long time. I was wearing sunglasses without prescription, and the people moving around the square wearing colorful outers seemed like flows of bright colors. the flowing dots coming up and down at the upper middle is people on the escalators, and the black hole-ish color absorbing flowing dots are the people constantly coming in/out of the department store. you can also find a few people waiting for someone(dots without trails). It's supposed to be fun just for myself, didn't really thought it's appropriate for the USk blog. But then I read the code of conduct again, seems like it doesn't really violate the rule-capturing what I saw, drew on location, record of the time and place. Thank you ^^

The Seoul Children's Grand Park is most suitable place to sketch various subjects, such as animals and people or diverse buildings surrounded by greens. Last Saturday was comparatively clear weather, so we had a pleasant sketch time with enthusiastic work all day long. We are looking forward to join with new comers. Glad to see you!

Children's grand park doodles

Thank you so much for the members of Urban Sketchers to let me join the group today.

The zoo was full of excitement bursting out of children, their hyper parents, and happy young couples. The diverse group of visiting homo sapiens complete the list of zoo animals.

Please excuse my pencil marks, I tried to upload the original doodle from the location rather than redraw, to abide the Sketchers rule as a nice new comer!
