Yesterday, despite the cold weather we had a good sketch time with plenty of subject than I had expected. POSCO Center, a landmark in the heart of southern Seoul's Teheran Valley high-tech venture corridor also hosts a wide variety of free cultural programs, events, and exhibitions throughout the year. I sketched in and out, here and there, seeking for the various subjects. It was a pleasing day all together!

I was on duty yesterday, many people visited the exhibition hall and appreciated a lot of different sketches interestedly. KH Lee played a guitar with nimble fingers and we could feel a festive atmosphere. In the meantime, I sketched some familiar faces here and there inside the gallery without stopping to rest. I enjoyed a very pleasant time!

sketching with KH Lee

space back of Plaza Hotel at Taepyungro, charcoal, pastels, 27 x 39 cm

KH Lee, at the Anglican Church of Korea, Jeongdong, pencil, 37 x 26 cm

KH Lee, view seen at the gate of Deoksu Palace, pencil, 37 x 26 cm

KH Lee
In the afternoon we went to the beautiful church. After sketching moved to Deoksu Palace which was closed on Monday.  There we drew the sceneries despite of cold weather. He'll return to the army. He loved the panoramic scenery from the city hall and to the Plaza Hotel. He said that he would draw the scene later in different sized paper to fill enough. So I said to him 'How lucky we're to live in Seoul!'.

Yesterday we sketchers met at Yongsan Electronics Shopping Mall that is the largest electronic shopping complex in Korea. The weather was cold and windy to sketch outdoors.
At the beginning I sketched on the concourse in front of the Terminal Mall and afterwards went into the indoor lounge of that building connected to Yongsan Station. Numbers of buildings with crowded people are very interesting subjects wherever we go.

a bazar at Jongno Culture & Gym Center, Sajikdong, Seoul

pen & pastel, 18 x 25 cm

A bazar was held in the foreground of the building for fundraising which would be used for poor villagers. Most of the visitors were the trainees of classes or swimmers. I had Chungmu Gimbab(rice wrapped by black laver) and a piece of chicken skewer. And sketched the exciting scenery.  One of the staffs said it was the first time held in the center.

mother under treatment

Dr. Pei Young Joon is famous all over the world for his therapeutic touch(TT) treatment.
He is the president of The Korean Traditional Health Management Association.
My mother is taking his treatment for days. She's getting better.
Hoping her full recovery I sketched the scene today. pen and pastels, A 4

one sketch at Gongdeok-Dong, Mapo-Ku, Seoul

pen, soft pastels, A 4
It was terribly windy. I had to get on a bus at Gongdeok-Dong across the Mapo Police Station.  Before walking across the road I saw the vine wrapped the street tree to the sky. The traffic light, street light pole, and electric pole created a scene worthwhile to be drawn. Because I didn't keep the mat I borrowed some paper box to sit in the very shop where I sat under the window. After finishing I got on a bus. The skyline of Mapo-ku looked so different a lot from the shapes of 10 years ago that I felt as if I were in a foreign land.

Cafe Joseph located at Pilundong, Jongro-ku, Seoul

Cafe Joseph, soft pastel(square), A 4

Walking down the street from the swimming center to Gwanghwamun Square I can see this cafe near the Sejongro Catholic church located at Pilundong, Seoul. I used to stop to see the flowers in pots whenever I passed by. Today I tried to draw the frontal feature of the Cafe Joseph. The owner, young lady, came out to see the drawing and liked very much. She offered for me to have a cup of coffee inside the cafe after finishing. But I had to leave for some business in bank after showing the drawing and promised that I'd post it on my blog. She'd visit to see her shop as I noted the blog address. Thank you, beautiful lady for the kindness you've shown!

Sketches from Kunming Medical College

piles of surveys from urban streets of central Kunming. Young ladies of KMC never forget to bring their sun umbrellas with them. Kunming's altitude is high and the UV exposure is strong. good sunscreen and/or umbrellas won't do any harm!
