Sewoon Shopping Mall is a shopping area located between Jongno 3-ga and Toegyero 3-ga, which was the modernization icon of the city in the 1960s. The shopping area is well known for selling electronics. But recently, the Seoul metropolitan government began demolishing its buildings, starting with Hyundai Arcade, with the intention of building tree-covered plazas in their place.
The area around Sewoon shopping centre will be reconstructed to constitute central Seoul. Lots of old aged buildings in the neighborhood  harmonize with each other spontaneously. I will visit and sketch around the worn-out buildings frequently before demolition is accelerated.

sketches on small paper pad

at Nonhyundong, pen & pastels, 12 x 16 cm

removal of crane at construction field at Kukidong, pen and watercolor, 12 x 16 cm

I began to sketch the first one sitting on the terrace of a coffee shop under the awning. While keeping on adding colors it was raining. I found that the left side of trousers was wet by raindrops after I finished. And I took a photo in a hurry in order to leave the place turning the sketch clockwise by mistake!

I dropped in a small eating house located at Noryangjin Fish Market in Seoul, the largest fish market in Korea, perhaps. After I ordered a dish I started to draw her who was trimming vegetable in the kitchen. I could finish with pencil before the food was served. I had tried to keep sketching there on a fine day but I couldn't due to the call from my mother. I may go there again for sketching because I found so many attractive subjects to draw. Hope to go there with Seoul sketchers someday.

at Deoksugung Palace from archive

25 x 25 cm, pencil & watercolor
Years ago, it was possible to use watercolor at the palace. These days it's strictly forbidden for the protection of the cultural property.

Years ago, I created this collage work with a motive of the palace and a church at Jeongdong street nearby. Though it's not a drawing made on the spot, I post this for the reference related with the scenery of the palace..
