Sketches at MECENAPOLIS MALL

After the cold days it was still not good enough for outdoor sketching. Against such weather some sketchers challenged to get good views outdoor. I did one after two ones in cafe or fast food shop. Fingers didn't move well. 

MECENAPOLIS MALL was one of our favorite sketching places for its unusual features with lots of pretty umbrellas in air over the round courtyard. In sunny days the shadow moving by light on the wall or floor looks good. For the mall locates near the big subway station, Hapjeong, restaurants and cafes were crowded with visitors. It was very convenient for us to capture the nice features through the windows inside having hot milk or coffee.

Hoping all the participants to have enjoyed the meetup in cold weather and to continue the challenge of outdoor sketching however it would be hard, thank you all!

Im Bo Young(임보영) was selling succulent goods at the 2nd floor corridor mall. I talked with her after sketching about the raising cactus and her family farm. She wanted to present a small one which could be attached on refrigerator. I declined gently because of my poor ability to raise plants.

It was not fine by severe yellow dust. Six sketchers including two newcomers(Kim Ji Hyun and Kim Eun Ji) and Don Yang. The place was very good with various views it possessed by itself and selling events on weekends. I tried pencils(2B and 5B) together and it inspired me to do more often.
Much thanks for all the participants in spite of bad air and busy schedule.

연일 황사로 많이 힘든 가운데 여섯명의 스케쳐들께서 모였어요. 멀리 미국에서 화가로 활동하시는 돈 양님께서 29년 만에 한국을 방문하여 짦은 시간이라도 스케치하려고 오신 것에 감동받았습니다. 시카고 어반 스케쳐에서도 활동하시며 티셔츠를 선물해주셨어요. 기념으로 간직하겠습니다. 사정이 생겨 일찍 귀가하신 새로 오신 분들께도 감사를 드립니다. 평소 잊고 지냈던 맑은 공기의 고마움을 다시 느낀 하루였습니다. 감사합니다!

안녕하세요! 어느덧 봄날입니다. 51차 월드 와이드 스케치크롤에 대해 안내드립니다.

날짜(Date) : 2016년 4월 23일 토요일 (April 23, 2016, Saturday)

장소(Place) : 메세나폴리스몰(MECENATPOLIS MALL),  합정역 9, 10 출구 (Hapjeong station, exit no. 9, or 10, Subway no. 2 or 6)

합정역 근처에 있는 메세나폴리스몰의 중앙 광장에서 10시 30분부터 스케치 시작하여 12시 30분경 점심후 4시까지 그리고 나서 광장에서 감상회를 갖습니다.

(We meet at the central garden inside the MECENATPOLIS MALL and start sketching from 10:30 am to 4:00 pm after

having lunch on 12:30 pm. We would like to have a pleasure to see all the works on the spot at the garden at 4: 00 pm.)

He said the mall administration would welcome the artists any time.

The building looked great with amazing shape in and out. We could feel that the administration office was open-minded to share culture with people when the functional manager Mr. Na Yoon-ho welcomed us very much showing deep understanding in the role and purpose of sketching Seoul, Korea. 

The total shape of the building never seem to repeat the same feature in every side, which may give variety in architectural design But such features make drawers very perplexed to figure out the exact shapes. 16 sketchers gathered this month : YH Lee, JW Park, SH Kim, YM Ham, YS Yun, HJ Kim, KY Lee, Cecilia Hwang, HK Jeong, Lucy Baik, YN Byun, GS Song, WH Kim, SJ Lee, KO Kwon, and BH Yoo.

지난 17일에 예고된 대로 메세나폴리스몰에서 모임을 가졌습니다. 이번에는 외국에 거주하시는 교포분들(정해권, 세실리아 황)과 한국에서 새로운 생활을 시작하신 루시 백께서 참여하셨습니다. 호주에서 30년 넘게 사시는 세실리아 황선생님께서 훌륭한 책(SKETCH YOUR WORLD, 제임스 홉스 지음)을 10권이나 무겁게 들고 오셔서 회원분들께 나누어 주셨어요.너무 감사드립니다. 황선생님의 바람대로 회원분들께 큰 도움이 되겠습니다. 언제고 한국에 다시 오시면 함께 스케치할 수 있기를 바랍니다. 

메세나폴리스몰의 운영실 영업팀장이신 나윤호과장님의 뜻밖의 호의도 커다란 선물이었어요. 우리의 문화 활동에 적극적인 이해와 도움을 아끼지 않으셨고 맛있는 점심식사를 제공해주셔서 단순한 밥한끼가 아니라 이해받는다는 기쁨을 선사하셨습니다. 언제고 방문해주기를 바란다는 당부의 말씀도 하셨구요. 깊이 감사드립니다!
