I've been working in my office near Yonsei University for many years. So I'm familiar with the Sinchon Campus and used to sketch the various scenes of the campus buildings from time to time.
Recently, Yonsei University has completed the campus remodeling project including underground parking lot for several years. So the Baekyang-ro, main axis of the campus, was closed to traffic and changed into the pedestrian mall as a meeting plaza and rest area. It is a great change to the pleasant atmosphere around the campus.
I sketched some new scenes that I didn't draw before and enjoy the fresh atmosphere around the historic campus.

Few days ago I visited  Seoul St. Mary's Hospital, Seocho-gu (서초구) in Seoul two times.
Seoul St. Mary's Hospital is one of the affiliated hospitals of Catholic University of Korea (가톨릭 대학교 서울 성모병원) and is part of the CMC (Catholic Medical Center) network based on its 80 years of history. The hospital is conveniently located within minutes by car, subway, bus, or on foot from many of Seoul’s international companies, hotels, and government buildings.
It was fine weather to sketch, and the atmosphere around the hospital was very pleasant enjoying the beautiful fall season. I sketched some colorful scenes in and outside the
hospital, especially the concert for patients was a touching performance.

three sketches in pencil

18 x 24.5 cm

Mother waiting for her turn at Seran General Hospital
18 x 24.5 cm

part of Yujin shopping store, Hongje-dong
pencil, 18 x 24.5 cm

Two weeks ago I went to the Seran General Hospital for my mother's check-up. While waiting for her turn I sketched the scenery of the park and my mother. The third one was drawn just across the Yujin shopping store (Yujin Sanga). The shopping mall locates across the Inwang traditional market. Therefore the back street which is shown above is busy with people, trucks and cars. The long awning, colorful parasols with dark inside looked attractive always. Though the wind blew very strongly I could borrow a plastic stool from the kind woman who was selling fried food in small store. Thankfully I could finish the sketch well.

christmas tree in hospital

14 x 19 cm

I sketched this one at the lobby(3rd floor) of the Korea University Anam Hospital today. The lobby was decorated with plants, small pond and comfortable stools. Christmas tree looked good with yellow lights and the paintings on the wall.

in hospital - from the archives

On 2001, my mother-in-law was hospitalized for two months for dementia. While she was sleeping I sksetched the interior or exterior scenes of hospital. She died two years later. Yesterday I took my mother to hospital for some examination. Being a while in hospital made me think about life and getting old. Posting this drawing I miss her.
