Drawing in Munmyo located in Sungkyunkwan Univ.

August meeting of Seoul Urban Sketchers was held in Seoul Munmyo which is located inside of Sungkunkwan University. Sungkunkwan was the best educational institution in Choseon dynasty. In the Seoul Munmyo, there are many buildings such as Daesungjeon, the place of serving Confucius and scholars, Myongryundang, the place where lecture took place, Dongjae and Seojae, dormitories for students. In addition, giant ginkgo tree that is more than 400years old is in Munmyo. Many urban sketchers participated and painted various scenes in Munmyo in nice weather. I personally think that I want to visit once again to see and feel the autumn color of the gingko tree in the fall.

Tangpyeongbigak & Hamabi (21*13 cm, pen & oil-color pencil)

 Tangpyeongbigak is a monument house built in front of Seoul Munmyo and this was built by King Young-Jo to protect the Tangpyeongbi from political strife. Hamabi is a monument located in front of the Munmyo, it means that everybody has to come down from the horse and be respectful.

I drew some  traditional buildings that remainded so far between modern buildings of Sungkyunkwan University in Seoul.

Sungkyunkwan is the first and higher  educational institution of the Joseon dynasty in Korean history .

It has two names 'Sungkyunkwan' and 'Munmyo'.

It was called by Sungkyunkwan as the academy of Joseon dynasty and was called by Munmyo in the same time  as the Confucion shrine for Confucius.

The Joseon Dynasty was maintained for 518 years from 1392~1910.

When it comes to urban sketches I almost  use watercolors but I'm always struggling with them to deal with.

Back in the days I usually used to draw with oil paints which is my best materials ever.

I really hope I'm getting used to handle watercolors.

성균관과 문묘는 같은 말

조선시대 최고의 교육기관으로써의 기능을 중요시 할 때는 성균관이라고 부르며

유학 역사에 공헌한 공자를 비롯한 선현들의  제사를 지내는 역할도 못지않게 중요했는 데

그때는 문묘라고 한다.

명륜당.동재,서재 ,존경각,육일각,대성전,동무,서무,

향관청,동월랑,서월랑,수복청,신삼문,

그리고 성균관대학교 입구에  탕평비가 있다.

8월 어반스케치 모임은 성균관 문묘에서 진행했습니다.

전국을 떠들썩하게 했던 태풍이 지나가고 역시 운 좋은 서울어반스케쳐스답게 날씨가 아주 좋았습니다.

마침 문묘에서도 매달 음력15일에 있는 행사날이어서

조선시대 유학자 복장을 하고  공자를 기리는 모습을 재현하고 있었습니다.

같이 현장 드로잉하면서 이런저런 이야기를 나누다보니 스케쳐스분들이 더 가깝게 느껴지는 하루였습니다.
매번 일찍오셔서 반겨주시고 이끌어 주시는 유병화 ,이용환 선생님 수고에 감사드립니다.
'그림여행'팀 분들도 참석하셨는 데 반가웠구요
이창훈님이 참가하신 어반스케치 포루투칼 심포지움 이야기도 흥미로웠습니다.
내년 암스테르담 심포지움에는 서울어반스케쳐스분들도 참가해 보시면 좋을 것 같습니다.
새로오신 분들도 환영합니다.

성균관 대학교 안에는 조선시대 최고의 국립교육기관인 성균관(오늘날로 하면 최최의 대학)건물들과  당시 학문 유학의 성인 공자를 기리는 사당 '문묘'가  있습니다.
문묘 명륜당 앞뜰에는  400년 이상된 천년기념물 은행나무가 있습니다.
가을이 되면 노랗게 물든 거대한  은행나무가 장관을 이뤄 관광객들이 자주 찾는 곳입니다.
이번에 못오신 분들은 가을에  스케치 해보시길 추천합니다.

The sketches of Sungkyankwan University

                Yesterday was the day of regular meeting of S.U.K
                We met at the main entrance of the Sungkyankwan University
                as noticed before.
                SKKU has a long history .
                it originally established in 1398 with the beginning
               of Joseon Dynasty,but through various historical events,
               It was equipped with a modern university in 1946.
               SKKU also  has the department of Confucianism ,
               the college of Confucianism and the graduate school
              of Confucianism. It seems combine modern and classic.
              It seems very unique to me.
              After Typhoon, the wind felt so mild,and the shape of
              trees and eaves protected me from the sunshine.
              The atmosphere was so good ,but my works were
              not enough as always .I hope to get better next time .

              I am glad to meet new commers.
              I hope to see you again ~~



               어제 성균관대학교에서 S.U.K 정기모임이 있었다
               아무것도 모르고 처음간 성균관대는 그 모태가 조선의 시작과 함께
               한다하니 그 역사와 전통이 가히 놀라웠다.
               태풍이 지나간뒤, 살랑살랑 부는 산들바람과 햇빛을 막아주는
               나무그늘과 긴 회랑의 처마..모든것이 충족된듯 했으나 그림은
               뜻대로 되지않는 아아러니를 언제나처럼 느끼며 또다시 다음을 기약!
