Yesterday, we Seoul urban sketchers visited IKEA Goyang, situated at Deogyang-gu, Goyang-si, close to Seoul. IKEA is Swedish home-furnishings chain store, and Goyang store is the second branch in Korea, which is projected to attract residents in the northern part of the province and more consumers in Seoul. The huge store sells furniture, accessories, and many kinds of stuffs that we need at home every day. 

It was a bit cold outdoors, so we gathered at the wide and comfortable restaurant on the 2nd floor and sketched the colorful interior scenes and some figure drawings. After lunch, despite the cold weather I went out of the building and sketched the facade of IKEA Goyang. Then I entered the huge home furnishing accessories on the 1st floor and sketched the large store scene with a high ceiling. I impressed the wide and long space of showroom, home furnishing accessory and huge amounts of products throughout the building. Lots of colorful displayed goods and bustling mall gave me unlimited subjects of sketches. I could draw colorful scenes of the huge shopping mall in the crowd of visitors. It also was very useful sketch time trying to draw various forms and movements on such a long and complicated space.

Several sketches of IEKA Goyang

          First of all, IEKA was very convenient .
          It's free parking all day and near my house.
          I thought it was a shopping mall selling furniture
          So, i went there a couple of times to buy small
          items like bookshelves,wine chair, blanket and more
          but yesterday, i found it's a good place to sketch
          Indoor was wide enough to draw a picture, the
          couchs and tables near the restaurant made easy to do work
          And there were so many attractive materials, like
          high selves, gathering boxes, and large and small lanterns
          Besides delicious foods and coffee ..
          Everything was in place, but ironically 
          my work was not like my mind
          Anyway it was a meaningful day ~~

          고앙 이케아는 여러모로 편리한 곳이다.
          무료주차에다 집에서도 25분거리..
          그곳은 가구만 파는 곳이라 생각했는데 그림그리기에
          최적의 장소였다.안락한 소파와 테이블,매력적인 소재들,
          (높은 선반,쌓여있는 상자들,천장의 크고 작은 등들, 고객들 등등)
         더운여름에 시원하게 실내작업을 하기에도 안성맞춤인듯..
         모든것은 완벽한데 그림은 뜻대로 안되는  ...그것이 아이러니~

2019년 3월 모임 안내 / 약현 성당

안녕하세요! 새해 시작한지 얼마 안되었는데 벌써 두달이 지나가고 있습니다.
따뜻한 계절이 그리워지는 요즘이라 3월의 늦은 날에 바깥 그림을 그려보았으면 합니다.

오래된 성당의 안과 밖이 아름답습니다. 점심은 성당 아래쪽의 시장 주변에 맛집이 많아 자유로운 시간에 이용하시면 좋습니다. 여러 해 전에 스케쳐분들과 생선구이를 맛나게 먹은 기억이 납니다.

남은 추위에 몸조심하시고 봄의 길목에서 뵙겠습니다.

Seoul Urban Sketchers met at IKEA Goyang yesterday. Though it was still cold not enough to dare to stand long for sketching. But some brave sketchers did. By their efforts we would be able to appreciate the great features of the mall. 

The mall is big and crowded with customers although it was an ordinary day, Monday. I could enjoy sketching freely on the exhibited comfortable couches and chairs. Even young staff recommended me to keep sketching on sofa after taking photo not to keep standing putting tools on carrier. I thanked her saying that I should sketch seeing the scene directly. She understood and I felt so warm for her kindness.

어제 아직도 쌀쌀한 날씨에 이케아 고양의 단체 모임은 역시 즐거웠어요. 너무나 넓은 곳이라 모든 것이 잘 비치되어 있고 우리와 친근한 소재라 그릴 것은 많았어요. 직원분들도 그림 보시면서 좋아하시는 모습에 격려도 되었습니다. 상생하는 공간에서 월요일임에도 적지 않은 인파였고 시간이 모자라 다 담지 못하는 것이 아쉬웠어요. 

재료는 주로 마른 재료를 썼고 푹신한 소파에서 물칠도 좀 했습니다. 평일에 자주 가서 드로잉 많이 해보아야겠다는 다짐을 하고 돌아왔습니다. 

새로 참여하신 분들과 오랜만에 오신 분들도 반가왔습니다. 감사합니다.
