Sketches with Seoul UrbanSketchers

After a long time I Joined to sketch with Seoul Urban Sketchers at Jeongdong, Seoul.
The weather was a bit cloudy, pretty many sketchers came to draw.

The first gathering place was in front of Deoksugung palace.
Just in time, It was held that the palace gatekeeper-changing ceremony

The event time was done so quickly, I had to move to find something to draw.

Walking around Deoksugung Stonewall, there were flea market. and I saw something interesting item. 

It was Rolling paper note pad. but in my case (as you also I think) It was seen funny sketch book. even endless paper :)

I cannot help buying it. after right I drew on there with it.

After walking a little bit I arrived at Paichai-hakdang that the first modern educational institution in Korea; the Appenzeller found

do not waste time. just draw!

It started to raining that time. I have to find somewhere inside. 

so I went to Jeongdong observation platform the next gathering place.

It has so nice view to see the Seoul's skyline. and there was a cafe (can sketch)

It was good time to draw around Jeongdong with Seoul urban sketchers!

Next month We (Urban sketchers Suwon) will meet in 22,Jul at Hwaseoung temporary palace, Suwon.

Although it was a wet and humid day, it was a happy day for me to meet and draw pictures at the sketch meeting. The tranquil Anglican church in downtown Seoul was beautiful. Before that, I made a sketch of the people who drink tea at a cafe in Deoksugung Palace. Some people left their seats, and there was a sad sketch.

The 6th Exhibition of Seoul Urban Sketchers at Topgoal Art Center - 제 6회 서울 어반 스케쳐스 탑골 미술관 전시회 안내

안녕하세요!

비가 내린 후라 많이 시원합니다. 아마도 장마가 곧 시작되지 않을까 싶습니다.
긴 여름동안 건강히 보내시기 바라며 전시회 소식과 더불어 스케치모임을 알려드립니다.

2009년 6월 개설된 서울 어반 스케쳐스는 2011년 6월의 첫번 전시회를 시작으로 총 5회의 전시회를 갖었습니다. 이번 6회 전시회는 서울 경운동에 위치한 서울노인복지센터 1층에 위치한 탑골 미술관에서 열릴 예정입니다. 시기는 8월 10일부터 8월 25일로 정해졌습니다. 전시 기간 중에 두차례의 어르신들과 함께 하는 체험 스케치 워크샵을 운현궁에서 가질 계획입니다.  두 차례의 워크샵 날짜는 추후에 공지하겠습니다. 종로 그림이 테마가 되는 전시회가 될 것이어서 종로 일대에서 스케치를 하려 하며 일정은 다음과 같습니다.

7월 8일 : 종로 타워, 조계사, 인사동, 낙원동 (10시 30분 부터 자유 스케치 후 오후 4시경 공평동 맥도날드에서 만남)
7월 15일 : 경복궁, 삼청동 (10시 30분 부터 자유 스케치 후 오후 4시 경복궁 국립 고궁박물관 앞에서 만남)
7월 22일 : 청계천, 광장 시장, 동대문 주변 (10시 30분 부터 자유 스케치 후 오후 4시 청계천 5가 마전교에서 만남)

7월 29일 : #56차 월드 와이드 스케치크롤이 건국대역 인근의 커먼 그라운드에서 오전 10시 30분 부터 예정대로 열립니다. 공지글 참고하시기 바랍니다.

스케치 장소의 범위가 넓은 관계로 시작과 마침에 만나기가 어려울 수 있습니다. 여러 장소가 포함될 수 있도록 편중되지 않게 스케치해 주시면 좋겠어요. 오전 오후 나누어 작업하신다면 커다란 도전의 기회가 되지 않을까 생각됩니다.

We're glad to inform you about the 6th Exhibition at the Topgoal Art Center in Seoul Senior Welfare Center located at Jongno-gu. The exhibition period will be from Aug. 10 to Aug. 25. The official staffs ask us to show lots of scenery of Jongno as many as possible. So we try to have three times' sketching meetups in Jongno area as follows:

July 8th : Jongno Tower, Jogyesa(temple), Insa-dong, Nagwon-dong (We'll meet at 4 pm at McDonalds in Gongpyeong-dong after free sketching from 10:30 am.)
July 15th : Gyeongbokgung, Samcheong-dong (We'll meet at the entrance of National Palace Museum of Korea at 4 pm after free sketching from 10:30 am.)
July 22th : Cheonggyecheon, Gwangjang Market, area around Dongdaemun Gate (We'll meet at 4 pm on the Majeon bridge of Cheonggyecheon 5th street near Gwangjang Market after free sketching from 10:30 am.)

        We had a Seoul Urban Sketchers meeting in DeoksgungPalace
        and it's surrounded area.
        There are various kinds of materials of drawing such as palaces
        , old church and curved stone wall path.
        It's very hot and humid, I picked a stop in the shade of big tree to
        sketch.
         After the meeting, I wanted to be more, but because of the    
        demonstrarion I had no choice but to come home.
        I was so happy to see members again and I had a great time
        to see works all. Let's meet up again sketch crawl.

Jeongdong is one of the best places for urban sketching in downtown Seoul. There are a lot of attractive subject matters for sketching such as beautiful Deoksugung Palace(덕수궁), stonewall walkway(돌담길), various church buildings, museums, modern architectural 

properties and the traditional festivals for many tourists and visitors. I liked such subjects and enjoyed sketching around Jeong-dong for a long time. Every time I sketch, it’s a new experience.

Last Saturday, usk Seoul members including many new comers met together around Deoksugung Palace and had a good sketch time. I painted a buildingscape in watercolors on the Jeongdong-gil street in the morning. After lunch, I went up to the Jeongdong Observatory (정동 전망대) on the 13th floor of Seoul City Hall Seosomun Annex Building (서소문 청사). The beautiful panoramic views of numerous buildings through the window fascinated me. I painted another buildingscape in watercolors looking down from the Observatory inside the building. It was a very pleasant sketch time to paint watercolors.

고풍스러운 전통 분위기와 현대도시의 북적거림이 어우러지며

관광객들과 각종 행사 인파로 넘쳐나는 도심의 명소~~

덕수궁과 정동 주변의 풍물은 한없이 그려도 마르지 않는 

서울도심 스케치의 오아시스같은 장소입니다.....

대한문 앞에서

제가 처음 참석한 서울어반스케쳐스 6월 모임에서 첫번째 스케치는 대한문 앞에서 시작하였습니다. 두 번째, 세 번째 그림은 서울시립미술관에서 그렸습니다. 미술관 내부에도 잠시 들어가 보았는데 입장료를 받지 않고 있었습니다. 저는 관람하지 않았지만 2층에서는 천경자 전이 열리고 있다고 합니다. 미술관 앞에서 비오는 토요일 오후에 스케치를 하며 느낀 것은 생각보다 많은 분들이 전시 관람을 위하여 미술관을 찾는 것으로 보였습니다.
이날 많은 분들의 좋은 스케치를 볼 수 있어서 기뻤습니다.

일찍부터 덕수궁 관광을 위해 외국인과 내국인들이 모여있고 

행차 준비를 위해 큰 북이 나와 있습니다.

The name of the building, Joonghwagag, means Central Harmonious Building.

I went to Deoksu Palace to do Urban Sketch.

The weather was humid and hot, but it was crowded with tourists, people touring the old palace, and people sketching the old palace.

While I was sketching, I knew a bit about the palace that I had been passing by.

I look forward to another sketch of the old palace.

날씨는  습하고  더웠지만   관광객,   고궁투어하는  사람들  ,  고궁을  스케치하는  사람들로  붐볐다.
스케치를  하면서  그동안   무심히  지나치던  궁에 대해    조금은  알게된  하루였댜
다른  고궁 스케치도   기대해본다.

Started another journey of my life, learning to draw. Tried to focus on drawing what I see. Feel second trial in Deoksugung much comfortable with sketchbook and pencils. Thanks to Ji-Hyun for guiding me such a wonderful world. Look forward to next meeting.

스케치하는 게 인생의 또 다른 한 모멘텀이 된 것 같습니다. 지금은 보이는 대로 그리려고 노력하는 수준입니다만, 두번째 덕수궁에서 그릴 때 조금 더 연필과 스케치북에 익숙해 진 것 같습니다.  다음 모임 때 뵙겠습니다.
