Sketches at Seoul Senior Art Performing Festival

There was a big performance for the senior generation over sixties supported by Seoul Associan of Welfare Centers at the KBS Sports World Arena located at Deungchon-dong. 35 Welfare centers in Seoul participated for the performance. The hall was very big. All the supporters for their teams and the players were excited by the joyful mood and dancing sound. It was my first time to join as a supporter. All the time from 10 am to 4 pm I enjoyed all the teams' performance. Wow, who could say the players were senior members? I could feel just energy and exciting mood all around through the big hall. I tried to capture their beautiful performing costume and poses. The best earning was that I decided to begin to learn one of those dances and samulnori or beating drum. It was really good experience to me. Sketching was my first aim to join. But I came home being excited by great feelings of the festival by senior generation from all parts in Seoul. We were one sharing the same period, dancing together, and living together happily. 

지난 화요일에 등촌동에 있는 케이비에스 스포츠 월드에서 열린 '어르신 생활체육 경연대회'에 응원차 참가했습니다. 참가한 동기는 공연 스케치였는데 공연 내내 흥겨운 음악에 맞추어 아름다운 춤과 노래를 선사하는 시니어 멤버들의 공연에 흥을 함께하며 즐거운 하루를 보냈습니다. 응원상이 있다하여 저희 복지관 직원께서 걱정이 많으셔서 그리는 틈틈이 술을 흔들었구요. 덕분에 2등 응원상을 타서 기뻤습니다. 참여하시는 그분들에게서 어떠한 노인티도 느낄 수 없었으며 아름다웠습니다. 이번 공연장에 참가하신 90대 노모와 70대

따님이 함께 추신 선비춤은 또다른 감동이었구요. 내년에는 저도 라인댄스에 도전을 해볼까 싶습니다. 난타든, 사물놀이든 한가지도 해보아야겠다는 결심을 하게되었습니다. 그동안 몸에 너무 게을렀음에 대한 반성도 했습니다. 내년에도 참여하여 더 풍성한 스케치와 감동을 느끼고 싶습니다.

지난 주말 도시재생사업으로 새롭게 오픈한 세운상가에서 어반스케치 했습니다.
9층 세운옥상에 올라가 바라본 서울은 높은빌딩과 오래된 낡은 슬레이트 지붕이 함께 보이는 아주 묘~한 풍경이였습니다.
3층 연결브릿지에서 청계천을 그려보는 것도 아주 좋았습니다.
새로오신분들 환영하고 꾸준히 오시는 분들도 반가웠습니다...


We met up sketchers at Sewon shopping Center in Jongno last weekend.
This is a place that has been reopened as a city renewal project.
I went up to the rooftop on the 9th floor and sketched Jongno with high and new buildings and old roofs.
And I watched the Cheonggyecheon on the 3 rd floor connecting bridge and drew it
There was a very good place to sketch urban.

Last Saturday weekend, our Seoul urban sketchers met at open square in front of Sewoon Plaza building in Jongno-gu, Seoul. Sewoon Shopping Center (세운상가) is the most famous electronics shopping area located between Jongno 3-ga and Toegyero 3-ga, which was well-known place as a symbol of the modernization of the electronics industry from the 1960s. But the Sewoon Shopping mall complex became old and deteriorated over the years, it has been remodeled from time to time as the need arises. Recently, The Dasi Sewoon Project (다시세운 프로젝트) transformed the old Sewoon Shopping Center into a hub of new industry through urban regeneration(도시재생).
It was so fine weather for sketching the newly renovated Sewoon Shopping Mall. I was impressed by the mixture of old and new buildings under the colorful urban skyline, walking along the three-story overhead pedestrian bridge between Sewoon Shopping Center and Daelim Shopping Center, which provided us with various attractions. Furthermore, Sewoon Plaza rooftop garden on the 9th floor is the best place to sketch colorful panoramic scenes of Seoul in all directions. I sketched the various scenes spread out horizontally before my eyes. While sketching the urbanscapes along the high-level pedestrian bridge and the rooftop garden, I experienced the diverse feeling of different eye level, new perspectives, free spaces from the crowds and vehicles, and so on. It was a pleasant and valuable sketch time in the bustling downtown Seoul.

경제발전 세월의 성장통에 녹아있는 전자상가 상징물..
낡은 주변과 소음 보행로, 슬럼화 되는 복합빌딩 연결 이미지가
도시재생을 통해 "다시세운"상가로 거듭난 모습입니다.

남북으로 길게 이어진 3층 보행데크와 9층 옥상정원를 거닐면서
새로운 시점에서 보는 넓고 다채롭게 펼쳐진 도시경관 요소들~
어반스케치를 위한 "이동식 갤러리 스튜디오"라 하겠습니다.

Charlie's urban sketching at the Sewoon-Sanga mall...

There was Seoul urban Sketchers regular meeting at the new Sewoon-Sanga shopping center on last Saturday. The new Sewoon sanga mall was a lot different from the old one. It was a nice place to go to buy various electronic products and heavy metal LPs when I was high school. 

It was still Mecca of electronic products. Especially There is so nice rest place and great view points on 9^th FL. (If you go up to the 9th floor, you can see the Jongno area at a glance.).

I had a great time with urban sketchers and sketched some street view and urban landscape on the top of the mall.  I would like to share with you for video clip as well.
