Sketchs at Seoul Folk Fera Market

I visited this Market last winter for our regular U.S.K meeting.

At that time, I was attracted to drawing things together .

So, i drew various colors of threads in the tall holder, (i also

drew a women ,merchant of cloth repair,in front of sewing machine ) the bags of various types and sizes ,the large and small suitcases and more.

But this time i couldn't find them. I guessed, maybe the

arrangement of the shops has changed.

So i drew several pieces of 'Youth's 1' (청춘 1번지) which is

a part of Seoul Folk Frea Market.

It , the materials of old fashioned, music and the scenery of the stores ,reminded me of my youth .

Many people looked enjoying their old days like me.

This place was good for seniors, but some patients

brought their children to tell the life of their youth.

And this Market is good for drawing in winter but

it's also a good place to draw outside, the snack cart,

the street vendors, merchants, customers, visitors....

Perhaps next time l hope...

거의 일년만에 다시 찿은 풍물시장은 조금 변해 있었다

작년겨울, 모여있는 것들에 매료되어 있던 나는 재봉질하는 수선가게

여인,높은 홀더에 꽂혀 있던 색색의 실타래,크기와 용도가 다른

다양한 색상의 가방들 ,모자들을 그렸다 .하지만 이번엔 아마도 상점배치가

달라진 탓인지 찿기가 힘들었고 대신 풍물시장의 한 파트인 '청춘1번가'

에서 여러장을 그렸다 .그곳은 추억소환장소인양 많은 방문객들이 자신들의

옛날을 얘기하며 때로는 자신의 아이에게 그 시절을 설명하기도 했다.

그곳은 겨울스케치에 최적이나 바깥풍경도 휼륭하다.노점상.상인과 오래된

물건들.. 다음에는 야외 스케치를 기대해 본다

Sketches at the Seoul Folk Flea Market

I began with this scene of pairs of socks, shoes, men's jackets hung on the column.

I asked this man who was selling and repairing bags whether I could draw him(Yang Jo-Wook) using his stool. He permitted with a smile. And he told me that he was an oriental painter and showed me his figure paintings which were great. We kept talking about his life for painting till I finished this one. It was meaningful time and rare.

Contrabass and accordions

While I was drawing this one a woman began to sound with a accordion next to me. I stopped this one and tried to sketch her. After finishing her playing I added colors to this one again.

Accordion player, Kang Eun-Ja, kept playing while I was drawing her. Those pieces were so good to hear and the passengers stopped to see her play and to see my work too. All of us might not forget the happy time we shared together. I thanked her too.

People can buy every kinds of paintings. Oriental, western, big and small...

I tried to go out to capture the street sellers and customers. Big scale stone sculptures were stood in rows. And it was so crowded as much as inside.

We had the first meetup this year at the Seoul Folk Flea Market. It was a usual cold day of January. But inside temperature was good enough for sketching. Merchants told they refurbished the ceiling for better environment. It was good to see the market develop day by day. The food court space was divided by transparent doors from the selling zone And the covered ceiling kept the indoor temperature warmer. We could feel the distinguished features clearly for we visited after one year for sketching. We thank for the participants despite of cold weather and hope to meet again soon.

아직 추운 날씨에도 불구하고 참여하신 서울어반스케쳐스 여러분들께 감사드립니다. 새로이 변모하는 서울풍물시장 덕분에 따뜻한 실내에서 즐거운 스케치를 하였어요. 항상 활기 넘치고 재미있는 공간이 있어 든든한 마음입니다. 새로운 마음으로 참여하신 분들께서도 자주 만날 수 있기 바랍니다.
