Florence is absorbed in sketching, pen and watercolor, 24 x 34cm

Yesterday, the weather was fine to sketch in the downtown Seoul. The new Seoul City Hall building exposed its splendid appearance between the old building and the surround buildings, and the townspeople crowded in Seoul Plaza for enjoying the holiday. KW Jung and I sketched around Deoksugung Palace and Seoul Plaza with Miss Florence half the day.
In spite of the unfamiliarity with Korean culture, Florence sketches various Korean buildings with a practiced hand. She is undoubtedly a good sketcher. Hope to see you soon!

sketches at Seochon village by Mun Sang-hee

1. I got to meet Ms. Yoo and Mr.Lee again! But I was a little late,
so I began sketching outside of this restaurant that made Gomtang,
while the others were in the alleyways sketching.

2. Next I went in the alleyway! Beautful hanok buildings! Started
sketchin, but couldn't sketch for long, because the construction
workers were a little loud.

3. After a delicious lunch having pork cutlet, we went to Baewha
Girl's Highschool배화여자고등학교 for another sketch session. It almost
looked like a private dormitory school in the US, because the
buildings were made of bricks and the hilly campus was full of trees
and breeze. Afternoon light was great, casting light shadows, which
I tried to capture in this drawing. Later, I went to join Mrs.
Yoo,Mr. Lee, and Mrs. Jung were sketching the play area. They all had
beautiful sketches, and some with water color. I had a great time,
thanks to everyone, and can't wait to meet all of ou next Saturday! :)

Seochon, an elegant village stretching from the west wing of Gyeongbok Palace to the base of Mt. Inwang, is a place with a background of the 600-year historic city of Seoul. Besides Seochon is well known as a famous historic village where traditional houses and modern architecture coexist. This village is full of subject for sketching, such as, traditional houses, government office building, convenient faciIities etc. Especilally there are some cultural properties, for instance,Sajik Park built around a stone altar called “Sajikdan (Historic Site No.121)”, Paiwha Girls' High School and College with a history of 100 years.
Last Saturday, I enjoyed strolling around Seochon village and sketching the variegated sceneries with Seoul urban sketchers all day long. It was a valuable experience at the familiar atmosphere!

Korean traditional houses are changed into western style building. But some houses keep their original style and use them as restaurants and cafes.

It was a real fine day. The village Seochon locates left of Kyungbokgung Palace where kings of Chosun Dynasty had lived. We moved through the narrow alleys of the traditional houses though some houses were changed into modern style buildings. Because the village locates near presidential residence, place, and governmental office buildings the village keeps being transformed into nice looking cafes, restaurants and galleries. We enjoyed the walking and sketching. Having lunch we went to Baehwa girls' middle, high school and college. Boys were playing football in the large playground. The campus was very beautiful with hundred years' brick buildings. Every time we find new shapes of the old villages. Thank you!
