Sketches of Yonsei University

I graduated Yonsei University. Many places which I sketched reminded me of my youth. So many buildings are built and reconstructed but the core is not changed. It was much fun for me to draw the the places in my memory with other sketchers!

Yoon Dongju's momument with a poem. He was a alumnus of Yonsei University, and most beloved poet in Korea. He lived in Japanese colonial era and even his lyrical poems are read as resistace.

Statues in front of the college of theology is named Flame Tree which symbolise God's bless.

Lee Hanyol's hill. He was shot to death in front of the Gate in 1989. He was just a sophomore of Yonsei University. At that time, students resisted very severely aganst military dictatorship. His death ignited the change of the regime.

Sketch meeting at Yonsei University

I went out to sketch for the first time since the exhibition of the Pagoda Art Museum. It is also fun to forget the pleasure of sketching while sketching and acquiring history in a building or a place.

September of Yonsei University

In the building where the summer heat was left, I could feel autumn. Underwood Hall and Stimson Hall were covered with ivy, and there was also a place where the maple leaf was covered.
There was also a hint that there was Kwanghyewon in the campus and I sketched a cedar tree appeared on the hill of Wuthering Heights. One day in September, I made a leisurely sketch of myself.

It was a real fine day of Autumn at Yonsei University. I started sketching at Gwanghyewon founded by H. N. Allen on 1885 as the first western medical hospital in Korea. It was restored on 1987 as a hundred year commemorative project of the university. It's unusual to see the Korean style traditional building with special history in such a big scale campus full with modern western buildings. After having very delicious food at cafeteria I stood at center of the famous Baekyangro. Two years ago nobody could stand there setting an easel by passing cars. It became possible for the big parking lot was built under the road. I enjoyed standing in the center sketching the road though the sunlight was very strong still. And the Student Union building had unique facade with repeated windows. I drew part of it. On 4:30 we shared our works inside the building. Thank you all the participants!
