The first catholic church built in Korea, Yakhyeon Catholic Church is an early example of Gothic architecture of the 19th century.The brickwork of Yakhyeon Catholic Church is renowned for its architectural beauty. On the occasion of the 34 Worldwide SketchCrawl we sketchers met in the precincts of the church and enjoyed sketching in and out of the historied church building all day long.

Seoul Grand Park is a major theme park in Korea with all kinds of entertainment facilities and a zoo. There are many interesting subjects and various sceneries around natural surroundings. Last Saturday the weather was fine and so cool, I sketched here and there diligently looking for the fresh subjects.

A few days ago, I dropped in at Changgyeonggung quite by chance and started on a drawing. I have sketched the ancient architectures on the very site two years ago. The memories of my childhood days came back to me while sketching, because my hometown from the age of five is around here.

Today, the weather was the best, breezing, shiny, clear after the heavy raining. Lee Yong-hwan, Moon Hyung-in and I participated in. The atmosphere in the church was so quiet that we rested while sketching. We moved to Bugchang-dong and had lunch. The area was full of shops and restaurants located near the City Hall, across the Duck Soo Palace. Sketching the area we agreed with that it would be a good place for the next sketchcrawl on October 16, 2010. Thanks!

Today I sketched these three ones at Naejadong, Chongro-ku, Seoul. I drew them before. Her sleeping pose caught my eye at first. I felt happiness seeing the old couple.

How much we love to have snack (cup ramyun) from time to time! I caught the scene a student was drinking the noodle soup at the cafeteria in Sejong Univ.

donation for refugees

When I entered the Kumsun Temple I could see the house (Haehangdang-House for understanding & practicing the truth of Buddha). On the narrow wooden floor was a big wooden box for donation laid. Visitors could have a cup of coffee or tea freely. A placard appealing donation for earthquake refugees in Chile & Haiti. Monks and staffs were very kind.

I climbed the Bughan mountain near my village. When descending I came to Kumsansa. The temple was so beautiful that I sketched many. The woman was praying reading the scripture.

At Insa Art Center located in Insadong, Seoul I could watch a performance luckily. It was held at the exhibition of Lee Suh Hyung. Korean traditional dancer, Na Young-ae played Salpuri Dance(kind of exorcising an evil spirit) to the accompaniment of four Korean traditional musical instrument players. She danced with her feet being dipped in red, blue, yellow color pigments. When she danced the foot prints were left on the white big mat. It made unexpected patterns as a result. I enjoyed the music, dance, and above all the sketching itself.
