These days, I used to visit and sketch some historic and memorable buildings near downtown.Many cultural assets, including old palaces, temples and churches are placed around us in Seoul. Especially, the Anglican Church of Korea(대한성공회 서울교구) is one of the most desirable spots to sketch artistically for me. I've sketched this beautiful church for years, but I'm never tired of it.

Going to the Namdaemun Market I dropped in the church. While sketching the piano a man sat and played a nice piece. I added him instantly. It was easy because he wore black clothes as same as the black piano. After minutes' playing he left.

I love to sketch this scene for the vertical lines,  planes with dark inside and the people coming and going on the floor.

a field trip to Sejong City(세종시)

Last week, I participated in a field trip program of Seoul Institute of Registered Architects(SIRA: 서울특별시 건축사회). After attending a special lecture about Sejong City, We made an on-the-spot survey of Sejong City, Multifunctional Administrative City (MAC:행정중심복합도시). The City is located on the east-north side of Chungcheongnam-do and has Chungcheongbuk-do Cheongwon-gun(청원군) to the East, Gongju-si(공주시) to the West, Daejeon(대전시) to the South, and Cheonan-si(천안시) to the North. The construction works according to the Sejong City Project have been under way for several years. Recently, the Ministry of Security and Public Administration(안전행정부) announced a total of 35 government agencies, including nine ministries from Seoul, will be relocated by 2014 when Sejong City's construction meets the initially scheduled deadline. And The plan has been going smoothly up to the present. Having a busy schedule with in a very short space of time, I have been busy sketching actively wherever I looked in.

아직은 낯설고 황량하지만, 첫 모습의 미래도시 현장을 답사하면서 

오늘의 비효율이 내일의 성장도시로 바뀌어 가기를 기대합니다.

A few days ago, I went to Omori(오모리)noodle restaurant located in Goyang City(고양시) near Seoul for lunch with my family. The restaurant was so crowded for it was peak time. While having lunch, I sketched some patrons at another table eating variety of foods in hall and room pleasantly.  After lunch, I sketched the new Goyang Bus Terminal building(고양 터미널) across the road.

일산 신도시는 서울에서 가깝고, 먹거리를 즐기며 도시풍경을 스케치하기에 좋은 장소입니다. 아파트와 빌딩, 편의시설, 호수 공원, 각종 이벤트가 어우러지는 활기찬 소재들을 편하게 그릴 수 있는 곳입니다.

The other day, I stopped at Seodaemun-gu office(서대문구청) on business. But the relevant officer was away on a business trip. I couldn't help waiting for his return. So I sketched here and there to kill time until he came back his department. While sketching, I arrived at the following conclusion. The more I draw, the better I can see.

서대문구청에 볼 일 때문에 들렸으나 담당이 잠시 출장중이라서 기다리면서 스케치 해보니까 늘 보던 것도 새롭게 보이는 듯 합니다.

I sketched two around the big gate. One was about a man who was arranging shoes on street. I love to capture those sellers on streets. I crossed the road and looked at the Naksan Fortress Wall. Across the wall white building with three big balls on wall caught my eye. Sun light made it look more beautiful.

동대문 주변은 언제나 생동감이 넘칩니다. 크다란 동대문시장, 신진시장, 광장시장등 주변에 길에서 갖가지 물건을 파는 소상인들의 치열한 삶을 엿볼수 있어 자주 가봅니다. 동대문 사거리에 도착하자 마자 길건너기 전에 신발파는 아저씨를 그렸습니다. 길건너서는 낙산 산성 건너에 있는 흰집이 눈에 들어와 안 그릴 수 없었구요. 벽에 세개의 공이 나와 있는 이색적인 분위기의 집이었습니다.
