It was somewhat cold all day. But all the area was alive with visitors. I began sketching on the Ogansu bridge of Cheonggyecheon. Things to draw were endless. The man on the motor bike showed interest in drawing telling why he became to draw left side though he wanted to draw the right. I couldn't answer for him. After lunch I walked into the DDP. which was crowded with people for the architectural fair or music performance. Visitors seemed to enjoy talking with friends enjoying the autumn weather. As it always has been time was short. Leaving objects to be captured for next visits we finished October sketch meetup. Thank you for joing us!

날씨가 많이 차가왔지만 동대문 주변은 언제나 그랬듯이 활발한 모습이었어요. 오간수교 위에는 그래도 햇살이 있어 주변의 이모 저모를 담았습니다. 위만 그리느라 청계천의 멋진 모습은 차후로 미루었구요. 아무래도 날씨가 찬지라 물을 그리기는 내키지가 않았나 봅니다. 점심 후 디디피로 건너가 커다란 건물과 빛의 움직임이 만드는 모습음 경사로에서 그려 본 것이 기억에 남습니다. 새로 오신 강연정님 반가왔어요. 서정화님의 브라질 커피도 너무 맛있었구요. 감사드립니다!

Last Saturday, for the 62nd World Wide SketchCrawl, we Seoul urban sketchers met at Seoul Folk Flea Market (서울풍물시장), Sinseol-dong (신설동), Dongdaemun-gu. The market is well known as the largest flea market in Korea, and all the street around market were crowded with customers and vendors all the year round. There are lots of sketching subject matters such as various kinds of regional specialties, antiques, craftworks, pottery, variegated necessaries of life, rare objects and many others.
It was very cold and windy outdoors, but inside the market building was so warm by many heaters and vibrant atmosphere for enjoying sketch pleasantly. I've visited here to sketch many times before, so all the colorful scenes were not stranger to me. I tried to sketch the familiar scenes in and out of the interesting flea market with a new perspective. It's a certainly useful experience to repeat sketching on the same spot many times.

Gocheok Sky Dome(고척 스카이돔) is Korea's first domed baseball stadium located in Gocheok-dong, Seoul. The stadium replaced Dongdaemun Baseball Stadium(동대문 야구장) and opened on 15 September 2015. It has a capacity of about 20,000 people and is home to the Nexen Heroes(넥센 히어로즈) baseball team. When the professional baseball season is over, the stadium can be hired as a concert venue and other events with capacity for around 22,000 spectators. 

Last week I went to the new Sky Dome to sketch several times .Though the stadium was relatively small compared to other countries' ones, I was impressed by the futuristic exterior and the fantastic atmosphere.  I enjoyed the baseball game sketching some dynamic and colorful scenes in and out the stadium. It was very pleasant and exciting sketch time without worrying about weather conditions.

I could pass Dongdaemun area days ago and yesterday again. On the last day of 2013 I wanted to draw the Dongdaemun Gate, which I had not drawn before in that view.  Yesterday I had to transfer from subway to bus at the area. The former Dongdaemun stadium site has been under construction, which was changed into the Dongdaemun History and Culture Park. The big mass showed its real feature by the recent removal of dust layers around the construction site. I could see the buildings well though people couldn't enter yet. The building I drew seemed like a symbolized Dongdaemun Gate in my point of view. 

지난 해의 마지막날 동대문을 지나면서 남쪽에서는 처음으로 그려보았습니다. 가까이에서 보니 더 위용이 있었구요. 어제 전철에서 버스로 환승하려고 지상으로 나오는 순간 겅설중이던 동대문 역사문화공원의 커다란 건물을 볼 수있었습니다. 먼지 가림막이 제거되어 그 덩어리가 눈에 잘 들어오더군요. 첫눈에 동대문의 아치문이 연상되어 동대문, 혹은 초가집을 형상화한 것인가 나름 생각하며 잠시 그렸습니다. 개장이 되면 앞으로 자주 그릴 수 있을 것이라 기대하였습니다.

Last Saturday, we Seoul usk members met at Seoul Folk Flea Market(서울 풍물시장) and enjoyed all the fun of the fair in the marketplace. Though it was a little cold and snowy, the temperature inside the building was so warm by many heaters and some hot tasty treats. There were lots of objects for sketching, including various antiques, daily necessities and all sorts of junk with interesting atmosphere. I sketched some new sceneries which I didn't draw before, roaming in and outside the market.

풍물시장은 우리 생활의 축소판 같습니다. 세월을 거쳐 온 衣食住의 생활과 풍습에서 나오는 비품들을 언제나 쉽게 만날 수 있지요. 스케치를 위한 작은 만물상이라고 하겠습니다.

Yesterday I and Lee Glara, one of my villagers, went to Doota building for sketching. The top sketch was done by her. It was her first sketch work on the spot though she's been painting watercolor pieces in community center over years. While sketching it began to snow heavily. We had good time enjoying the beautiful scenery.

어제 집에서 출발할 때는 눈이 안왔는데 두타빌딩에 도착해서 그리는 중에 눈발이 세어지더군요. 7층에서 보는 눈 내리는 모습이 정말 아름다웠어요. 한동네 사는 이 글러라씨와 함께 즐거운 시간 보냈습니다. 글라라씨는 본격적으로는 처음 하신 작품이 예사롭지가 않았습니다. 앞으로 함께 많이 그릴 수 있기 바라봅니다.

I sketched two around the big gate. One was about a man who was arranging shoes on street. I love to capture those sellers on streets. I crossed the road and looked at the Naksan Fortress Wall. Across the wall white building with three big balls on wall caught my eye. Sun light made it look more beautiful.

동대문 주변은 언제나 생동감이 넘칩니다. 크다란 동대문시장, 신진시장, 광장시장등 주변에 길에서 갖가지 물건을 파는 소상인들의 치열한 삶을 엿볼수 있어 자주 가봅니다. 동대문 사거리에 도착하자 마자 길건너기 전에 신발파는 아저씨를 그렸습니다. 길건너서는 낙산 산성 건너에 있는 흰집이 눈에 들어와 안 그릴 수 없었구요. 벽에 세개의 공이 나와 있는 이색적인 분위기의 집이었습니다.

Last Saturday, I joined Seoul sketchcrawl around Dongdaemun Design Plaza. Dongdaemun and its surroundings are always attractive and interesting for our urban sketchers. This is because those have the colorful sceneries including the history of metropolitan Seoul.
