Sketching with Stephen Kopp from Australia (2)

Stephen Kopp, Acrylics

Stephen Kopp, drawing on fan, acrylics
A monk visiting the place asked him to draw on his fan.
The artist drew with acrylics with pleasure and presented it to him.
The monk was pleased with the drawing so much.

Susie Kopp was busy with knitting.

The following three sketches are of mine.

watercolor, pencil, 30.5 x 22.9 cm

What a pleasure sketching together at a nice place is always! Today was just like that. I went with my mother after my father's death last Monday. She needed rest and to forget the sorrow for a while. I thank for the kindness of Seoul sketchers and Mr. Mrs. Kopp to my mother. They'll leave Korea within days. Of course we promised to meet and sketch together whenever they come to Korea. Thank you all!

Thank you, Ms.Yoo and Mr. Lee, another great sketch session. It was a hot day, even though there weren't many trees or shades nearby to protect from the summer heat, the campus was full of great energy. There was even a student group, climbing the walls of the campus, doing jumping, handstands, and so on. The music building to the side was called Ahn Ik Tae, the composer of the national anthem, was interesting with many different patterns/shapes, which I didn't get to sketch, but made the campus more lively. All in all, it was a good day. Looking forward to the next meetup/sketch session!!!

Sketching with Stephen Kopp from Australia

Mr. Stephen Kopp from Sydney, Australia visited Korea again. He has been sketching together with us for years whenever he comes to Korea with his wife Susie. Last Saturday, June 2nd, 2012 he joined us at Soongsil University. He usually paints using acrylics on canvas. This time he drew the scenery at the entrance of the campus.

We thank him and his wife for participating in sketching as often as he can. Tomorrow, Thursday, we try to sketch the beautiful Unhyeongung located at Unni-dong near Insadong. Hope you to come and sketch if you can. See you tomorrow!

Soongsil University is a private Christian university, which was founded in 1897, is now located at Dongjak-gu, Seoul. The Soongsil University campus is surrounded by residential buildings including apartment complex, but the overall composition of the campus is well designed and naturally harmonized with the surrounding environment.
I sketched several buildings sequentially from the main gate to the central plaza at the top of a small rise in front of the Student Hall. The weather was so fine, we sketchers had a delightful time at the neat and lovely campus with a history.

Real fine day was it! Breezing, shiny... The campus was beautiful and well designed with modern buildings. We could see families on picnic with their kids under the trees.  We were pleased with the participation of Stephen Kopp and his wife Susie from Australia. We planned to sketch once more at Unhyeonngung on coming Thursday.  Thank you all!

Florence is absorbed in sketching, pen and watercolor, 24 x 34cm

Yesterday, the weather was fine to sketch in the downtown Seoul. The new Seoul City Hall building exposed its splendid appearance between the old building and the surround buildings, and the townspeople crowded in Seoul Plaza for enjoying the holiday. KW Jung and I sketched around Deoksugung Palace and Seoul Plaza with Miss Florence half the day.
In spite of the unfamiliarity with Korean culture, Florence sketches various Korean buildings with a practiced hand. She is undoubtedly a good sketcher. Hope to see you soon!
