#45 World Wide SketchCrawl at Yeouinaru

pencil, pastels, watercolor
42 x 30 cm

It was a real fine day, no blowing, clear sky, warm weather. Nine sketchers participated in this time. Yeouinaru is a resting area for citizen, where Han River cruise terminal locates. People enjoyed picnic with their families or riding bicycles. Thanks to lots of benches with big parasols we could keep sketching  comfortably. In the afternoon there was a show which a man rising into the sky by the strong motor power controlled in the motor boat. He looked like an acrobat on water repeating rising and jumping down the water. Kids and visitors liked the show very much. It was a very interesting experience for me to capture the scene too. We had an on-the-spot exhibition at 4 o'clock. Participants showed much interest taking photos of other ones' works. Thank you all : YH Lee, KY Lee, YM Ham, JH Han, KH Kim, BH Yoo and new comers, Hwang Oh-Yeon, Gu Bon-ok, and Choi Deak-hee.

Hope you to visit here and enjoy all the sketches from the globe.

dining room

pen, watercolor, A 4

Ten days ago I visited my mother who stays in Seodaemun district silver care center. It was early in the morning. The scenery with Inwang mountain out of the window was so good that I felt like sketching. It was a memorable experience for two of us that I drew the place she used to use.

The other day I visited Seokparang(석파랑), located at the foot of Inwangsan Mountain, Hongji-dong(홍지동) in downtown Seoul. Seokparang's architecture, known as the " Villa of Daewongun(대원군)" was originally part of the Seokpajeong Villa(석파정 빌라) that is Seoul Tangible Cultural Property No.23. The beautiful gardens around the restaurant and ancient buildings are attractive with colorful autumn leaves.  Within the historic site Italian restaurant "Stone Hill", located upper side of Seokparang, is a sightly spot to visitors.
I sketched around the historic building and the pretty restaurant here and there, besides, the street scenes.

sketching a model of Acrocanthosaurus

skeleton of Acrocanthosaurus exhibited in main hall
24 x 32 cm

The Seodaemun museum of Natural History opened on July 10, 2003 locates near the Seodaemun-gu district office and managed by the office. Today I visited it and looked around from first to third floor. There were lots of models and fossils of natural history. I watched a short 3 D movie about the birth of earth wearing 3 D eyeglasses. Stuffed animals were shown in separate rooms. and I could see the steps of human evolution. Groups of children from kindergarten kept coming and going. Though I like to sketch the life animals in zoo I felt it would be very helpful to sketch such taxidermied specimen too. The surrounding scenery was good to take rest in nice weather.

Last Saturday, we Seoul sketchers met at  Ewha Womans University(이화여자대학교). It was founded on 1886 by Mary F. Scranton, an American missionary of the Methodist Episcopal Church. The campus located in central Seoul with surrounded natural greens and a number of old and contemporary buildings nearby one of the most popular shopping district in Seoul.
Across the heart of the Ewha Womans University, the recently completed ECC (Ewha Campus Complex) shaped valley, is Korea’s largest underground campus. The ECC provides students with various services, from learning to cultural activities, all under the one roof. In a whole campus, lots of historic stone buildings and modern high-rise buildings are mixed intimately and harmoniously.
It was a little hot during the day, but the natural air conditioning from the wood offered a cool atmosphere for sketching.  I enjoyed sketching the beautiful campus buildings and several colourful scenes.
