오월의 마지막 토요일인 5월 30일  

게절의 여왕이라는 말이 무색하게 참으로 아름다운 날이다. 

covid19 로 제한된 공간에서만 있다가 

밖으로 나오니 

눈부신 햇살이 눈을 가늘에 뜨고 푸른잎들을 보게 만든다. 

늦었다 

아침부터 꼼지락거리며 챙기느라 생각보다 늦게 도착했다. 

경복궁역에서 버스를 타고 올라가는 동안 창밖의 풍경을 

어느덧 오월이 아닌 초여름의 빛갈이, 향기가 풍긴다.

창의문이 보인다. 

인조반정의 현장이요, 121사태의 현장인 창의문은 

권력을 탐하는 사람들이 넘었다.  

권력욕으로 더렴히기 전에는 의리로 빛나던 자하문이라고도 불렸다. 

겸제 정선이 그린 창의문이다. 

현재 경복고등학교 자리에서 태어난 겸재는 장동팔경이라하여 

지금의 서촌일대를 그린 그림이 전해지고 있다. 

창의문뒤로 북한산의 바위가 힘차다. 

창의문을 지나 

언덕위 길모퉁에 서서 그린 거리 풍경이다.

숙점문으로 가는 탐방길 입구에서 그린 창의문 지붕이 보이는 풍경이다. 

멀리 인왕산 능선이 보이고 산기슭에 알록달록한 지붕이 예쁜마을이다.

커피가 구수하고 향기로운 집이다. 

모여서 함께 그림을 그린다는 것은 어떤의미일까 ? 

오랜만에 뵙는 얼굴이 반갑고 

서로의 그림을 보며 자극도 받고 

서로 안부를 묻고 정보도 교환하고 

역시 만난다는 것은 좋은 일이다. 

크로나땜에 봄이 오는 줄도 가는줄도 모르니 ~~~~

웬일인지 시간을 잃어버린 느낌이다. 

그래도 오늘 그림을 그렸다!!!

신이나고 뿌듯해하며 집에 오니 하루가 다 갔다. 

다음 모임이 기다려 진다.

The weather was very clear last Saturday, especially it was the first sketch meeting in four months after Corona19, so the atmosphere of the meeting place was full of vitality. Buam-dong, a beautiful village, is a small tourist attraction that I often visit and sketch because it is close to my home and has various painting elements. The village, which has the rural atmosphere of Bukaksan Mountain and Inwangsan Mountain hills, is filled with many sketching elements, including famous food restaurants, cafes, modern galleries, and registered cultural assets. 

In the morning, I sat on the stone steps looking at Bukhansan Mountain in the distance, and began to paint a panoramic view of the village where high and low houses were harmonized. I drew a watercolor on a large piece of paper. When drawing on a larger piece of paper than on a small piece of paper previously drawn, it was certainly beneficial in many ways because it allowed more observation and concentration on the subject. 

After lunch, I leaned over the table on the second floor of the cafe(Club Espresso) and sketched the various street views over the window in a comfortable atmosphere. I usually use pens and watercolors, but I think it's good to enjoy different flavors of atmosphere, sometimes using a variety of colored pencils, pastels, and markers, and so forth. Buam-dong is a small and cute village, but it is also a good place to sketch for new challenges to various objects and materials.

빈티지와 현대미, 예술과 전통 문화가 자연스레 어우러지고

명징한 하늘아래 구비구비 골목길.. 다양한 색들의 변주곡을 들으면서

북악의 호연지기를 마시며 5월의 부암동 스케치에 취해봅니다.

Last Saturday we've had a regular meeting after months' rest due to COVID-19. So many young sketchers and old members gathered at the beautiful village, Buam-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul. And Daniel whom I met at the Geumsunsa joined too. Thank you!

These days I like to use body colored paper with white chalk. The results look like print. Making a print piece needs lots of efforts and process. But white chalk and colored paper gives vicarious pleasure simply. Above all dark paper makes me feel at ease without reflecting effect of strong sunlight. The bottom one done at Geumsunsa caught the interest of the nun(monk) saying "This looks like a print!". Of course I hoped her to begin drawing.

On the way of going to Inwang Market located at Hongje-dong in order to buy garlic I dropped in park along the Hongjecheon stream to draw more on black paper. People wearing masks walk, run, ride bicycles with their friends and kids following a trail. Fortunately I found a big parasol with good benches and stone table. Without them I might not be able to doodle even. Good season came for sketching despite of the fearful infection.

오랜 만에 가진 모임에 많은 분들의 참여로 매우 활기가 넘쳤고 오후에 전시된 작품들은 장관이었습니다. 새로 오신 분들도 앞으로 열심히 동참하셔서 자신만의 그림 세계를 펴나가시면 좋겠습니다. 나누어 주신 로고도 참으로 예뻐서 소중히 간직하겠구요. 수고하신 분들께 감사드립니다. 

요즘 검은 종이에 희색 초크로 그림그리는 것에 아주 매료되어 자꾸 그리고 싶어집니다. 어찌 보면 판화같기도 하여 쉽게 판화 기분을 내는 멋도 있는 듯합니다. 얼마 전 금선사에서 파스텔 안쓰고 그린 후 지난 모임에서 두장 그리고 어제 인왕시장에 마늘 사러 가다가 홍제천변에서 두장 더했습니다. 날씨가 좋아 길에 앉에서도 물없이 쉽게 그릴 수 있어 멋진 색을 더 사서 그려봐야지 하는 마음이 들기 까지 합니다. 

일기가 그림그리기에 매우 좋으나 감염우려로 활동이 제한적인 것이 아쉽습니다만 환경에 적은하여 방법을 찾아보면 길이 나오리라고 생각합니다. 다음 모임때까지 건강히 지내시고 작업 많이 하시기 바랍니다.

주변에 윤동주 문학관, 한옥 도서관으로 유명한  청운문학도서관이 있지만
아쉽게도 코로나때문에 현재는 미오픈 상태입니다.
정모할 당시에는 문을 열지 어떨지는 모르겠습니다.
무엇보다 골목골목 오래된 집들과 예쁜 카페들이 많으니
스케치 할 거리를 찾아보는 재미도 느껴보시길 바랍니다.

Doing art at Ttukseom, Seoul

YH Lee and I visited the Ttukseom resort again for sketching. But the very spot we planned to sketch near the entrance of the caterpillar tunnel was closed firmly since Feb. 25 by the Corona19 policy. We should have called the information center. We had to go down to the plaza. It was not a fine day but cloudy, blowing and even drizzling for a while. To take shelter from rain we took seats on a stone bench under the overbridge for subway line no. 7. Though rain stopped soon it began to blow strongly. I felt very cold for I did wear somewhat lightly expecting hot weather of previous days. Despite of bad weather people came there with their friends, families, kids. They were enjoying talks, riding bicycles, walking along the Han River after months' restraining themselves from outdoor activities. But most of them wore facial masks though. Just all of us hope this situation to be ended as soon as possible.

오늘 뚝섬 자벌레관에서 큰 종이에 다시 그리려고 방문했는데 자벌레관 출입문이 굳게 닫혀 있어서 하는 수 없이 광장으로 내려가니 비가 슬슬 오더군요. 그래도 전철 교각아래는 비피하기가 좋아 돌의자에 앉아 그림을 시작했습니다. 비가 더 오기 전에 매력적인 장면을 잡아 같이 그리게 되었어요. 사람들은 좀 많이 나온듯했어요. 워낙 요즘 썰렁한 분위기였는데 전과 비슷해보이기도 했습니다. 그래도 어린이 날이라고 생각하면 예전 분위기같지는 않았어요. 비는 곧 그쳤지만 바람이 심하게 불고 강가라 그런지 더 추웠습니다. 그래도 마스크를 쓰고라도 그림을 그릴 수 있어 좋았어요. 깔깔거리는 어린 학생들의 웃음소리가 어찌나 즐겁던지요. '참 좋은 시절이다...'하며 절로 미소가 지어지더군요. 공부다 뭐다해서 저희들은 또 괴롭다 하겠지만 모여서 숨넘어가게 웃을 수 있는 그 시간이 얼마나 귀중한지 아이들이 알았으면 했습니다. 코로나가 하루 빨리 종식되기를 바라며 오늘 그림을 마쳤습니다.

Days ago I had to buy some stuff at the shop around Dongdaemun Gate. After the shopping I walked up to Naksan wall near the Gate. The weather was very fine. Most people wore masks. I arrived at the highest point of the wall. The views were excellent. Every side looked great for sketching. I caught two scenes. Finishing these drawings I looked for public transit to the peak point. Promising to myself that I come again to capture all the beautiful scenery I walked down the interesting road(Guldari-gil, snail-gil) at Choongsin-dong, near the Naksan wall.. I drew the third one more.

며칠전, 동대문 근처에서 필요한 물품을 사고 근처의 낙산 도성을 올라가 보았습니다. 코로나로 집에만 있다가 오랜만에 좋은 날씨를 즐겼어요. 사람들도 많이 보이더군요. 오래된 동네가 주는 정겨움과 내려다 보는 풍치를 담았습니다. 마음버스가 있어서 가기 편리할 듯하여 좋은 스케치 장소로 잡아놓았습니다. 특히나 이웃하는 충신동 굽다리길(달팽이길)은 정말 재미있는 장소였고, 도시 재생이 진행되는 곳으로 기대하는 마음이 컸습니다.

These days most people are recommended to stay at home to end the contagion of Corona19. I went to the temple, Geumsunsa(금선사) located near my village with BH Yoo. Weather was very fine. The temple was very calm. I sketched two pieces in order to draw in bigger paper later. The temple runs temple stay program. When I saw a group of two foreigners and a Korean woman I thought they might be participating in that program. We talked with them greeting them and asked him to be a model. He replied "No problem!". He, Daniel, was from Basel, Switzerland. And he with his wife was staying in Seoul for five years and they kept travelling our country and sharing the photos with stories in the website : SCHAUPLATZ to let people know about Korea and Switzerland. And he told that he had been in Panmunjom(판문점) for several years too. Though we couldn't talk long the meeting was impressive and we hoped to meet there later.

지난 일요일에 금선사에 올랐습니다. 요즘 코로나19로 인해 전같으면 신자들뿐만 아니라 등산객들도 심심찮게 들리는 곳인데 너무나 한적해서 그야말로 "절간같다"라는 말이 그대로 어울리는 듯했습니다. 사찰이 아름다워서 나중에 20호를 그려볼 요량으로 스케치를 몇장 하는 중에 외국인 부부로 보이는 듯한 분과 한국인 여성을 만나게 되었습니다. 그들도 절에 오래 머무르는 것 같아서 혹시나 템플 스테이에 참여하시는가 하고 인사를 나누었는데 그런 것은 아니었고 그냥 방문하신 것이라는 이야기였습니다. 스위스에서 오셔서 5년을 살고 있다고 했습니다. 부인은 짧은 한국어는 하셨구요. 한국의 아름다움을 스위스 분들께 한국의 아름다움을 소개하는 홈페이지를 소개하고 이메일 주소를 교환하고 언젠가 거기서 다시 만나자고 덕담을 나누며 헤어졌습니다. 작지만 아름다운 사찰에서 스친 인연을 기념하며 다니엘을 그린 그림을 선물했습니다. 그윽한 분위기 속에 좋은 만남의 하루였습니다~

An Important Message for Urban Sketchers
Dear USk Community:

Coronavirus or COVID-19 threats to individuals and groups are real and should be taken seriously. We strongly advise that all sketchers, administrators, instructors and volunteers follow the guidelines and recommendations available to them from their local and national health organizations regarding what to do and how to stay safe. We all need to take on the responsibility of not putting ourselves or others at risk.

This may mean cancelling weekly sketching activities, 10x10 workshops, instructor workshops or other USk events. In those instances please notify other members about cancellations and postponements. On our end we will pause the promotion of USk group and instructor activities scheduled in the coming weeks to avoid questions and confusion.

So please, pay attention to the medical experts providing information on what to do during this time. On behalf of the executive board and all its members, stay safe, keep sketching even if you’re by yourself, and we know we will all be sketching together soon, with lots of stories to tell.
