Sewoon Shopping Center has become the hot place for the visitors, students, and the urban sketchers to drop in in order to see how the urban renovation to change the scenery not hurting the original structure on a large scale. We could enjoy better environment to appreciate the beautiful scene on 9th rooftop. 

At first I captured the old scenery of the area around the building remembering the previous shape covered by big awning materials. On the bridge connecting two shopping malls I sketched the bottom one. The air was not bad because it was a weekend and most of the stores on both streets were close. The weather was really good.

  한달여의 여행을 마치고 집으로 돌아가기 앞서 밴쿠버 중앙도서관 옥상 정원의 

스케처스 모임(Vancouver urban sketchers)에 참석했습니다.

어린이대공원 북까페 1층 뒷편

찾는 사람이 거의 없어 아주 한적했습니다.

혼자 딴세상에 온 듯 조용한 스케치시간을 갖을 수 있었습니다.

스케치 마치고 가는 길 대공원이 발 디딜 틈 없을 정도로 사람이 많아 깜짝 놀랐습니다.

녹슬고 곰팡이 피고 페인트칠 벗겨진 황폐한 인상을 주는 인적드문  북까페 뒷 편 풍경은

같은 어린이 대공원안이라고 믿을 수 없는 곳이었습니다.

모던한 건축디자인과 버려진 느낌이 대조를 이루어

스케치하기에 아주 매력적인 장소였습니다.

언뜻 보면  진짜 폐가 같고 칙칙해 보입니다.

그래서인지 건물 뒤편은 사람의 관심을 끌지 못합니다.

자세히 오래들여다 보면 어느 한군데 손가지 않은 곳이 없는 아주 세련된 공간입니다.

아마도 의도적으로 폐가의 흔적, 녹슨 것,

오래돼어 방치된 것을 그대로 살린 게 아닌가 생각해봅니다.

폐허의 잡초 느낌으로 자란 풀도

건물에 생기를 불어 넣지만 인위적으로 보이지 않게  심어진 것입니다.

뭔가 잃어버린 것들을 환기시키게 하는  공간이었습니다.

The Seoul Children's park is one of the most crowded places in the Seoul city. 

By contrast this area is surprisingly quiet and silent. 

This building is moldy,paintless and very old as it tells the history of its own. 

That is what architects intended to call those memories to us.

한땀 한땀 수놓은 것도 아니면서 스케치는 하나밖에 못 건졌습니다.

그런 주제에 제일 늦게 까지 그려서 헤이질 때 인사도 제대로 못 한 것도 안비밀!

유병화쌤 말씀처럼 입으로 하는 좝이 더 많았습니다. 몹시 반성중.

그림이 길어서 1장을 2파트로 나눠서 찍어보았습니다.

마치 3장 그린 것처럼 물타기 시도

이 상태에서 사진 찍은 후  끝날 때까지 전화통화하다 급마무리 15분완성했습니다.

해외갔다 온 것도 아니면서 오늘에서야 어린이대공원 짐을 풀었습니다.

 이제보니 파레트도 못 닦고 물통에  붓헹군물도 그대로 들고 왔습니다.

다음엔 꼭 그림에만 집중해 보겠습니다.

이번에도  많은 분들이 서울어반스케쳐스 모임에 참가하셨습니다.

사람도 많고 볼 거리도 많아 스케치하기 좋은 어린이대공원되셨길 바랍니다.

이번 서울어반스케쳐스 모임에  처음 참가하신 김준현님의 그림입니다.

 



 

반달가슴곰 (Korean black bear)

역시 자연 풍경보다는 동물들에게 시선이 먼저 가는 것은 어쩔 수 없나 봅니다. 느리게 꼬물꼬물 움직이는 곰들을 넋 놓고 바라보고 있다가 얼른 정신 차리고 스케치북을 꺼내 들었어요. 한 30분 정도 그리는 동안 아이들을 동반한 가족들이 많이 찾아왔는데, 가장 많이 들린 말소리는 이거였어요. “와, 곰이다, 곰!”

Well, I should admit that, even if I am a landscape architect who loves dirt and plant, what caught my eyes at first in the park was the animals. While drawing black bears, I heard same yellings over and over again: “Look, mom and pa. Bears! Bears!”

 

자칼 (Jackal)

동물은 그만 그리고 빨리 풍경을 그려야겠다고 생각하며 발걸음을 옮겼는데, 이놈이 따스한 햇빛 아래서 너무 우아한 포즈로 누워있어서 도저히 그리지 않을 수 없었습니다.

I wrapped up bear drawings and hurried up for landscape drawing, but couldn’t take my eyes off from the jackal's gorgeous pose.

엄마 코끼리 (Indian Elephant )

아기코끼리도 함께 있었는데, 계속 엄마 품에서 머리를 부비더군요. 코끼리를 보는 순간 갑자기 어릴적에 부모님과 함께 이곳 동물원을 왔던 장면이 떠올랐어요. 어린이대공원은 단지 현재의 여가와 휴식만을 위한 곳이 아닌, 제 과거의 기억을 다시 만나는 공간이었습니다.

While looking at mother and child elephants, a scene from the past moment that I had come to this place with my parents was suddenly conjured up. It seems that the Children’s Park is not only the place for leisure but for calling upon one’sembedded memories. 

 

맘껏 놀이터 (Children’s playground )

이 장소를 그림으로 남기기에 매력적이었던 이유는 세 가지였습니다. 언덕과 터널이 있는 아기자기한 지형이 있었고, 저 멀리 원경에 이곳이 도시에 위치한 공원임을 말해주는 고층 건물이 보였으며, 햇살아래 아이들이 미끄럼틀 타고 모래장난하며 노는 모습이 귀여웠습니다.

There were three reasons that I sketched this playground- first, a bumpy and sunken topography was very interesting to draw, second, a tall building in the background showed that the surrounding is the city center, and the last, I wanted to deliver children’s vivacity in the drawing.

한 할머니가 땡볕 아래 보라색 양산을 쓴 채로 조용히 앉아계셨습니다. 일행 분들은 그늘 속 책상 주위에 모여앉아 왁자지껄 담소를 나누고 있었는데 왠지 이분만 홀로 떨어져 계시더군요. 옛 건물의 흔적 아래서 세월의 기억을 곱씹고 계신 듯한 그분을 그리고 싶었습니다. 주변에서는 40여년 전 노래인 ‘꿈을 먹는 젊은이’가 통기타 선율과 함께 울려 퍼지고 있었고, 산딸나무 열매에서 나오는 듯한  향기가 공기에 스며들고 있었습니다.

Under the broiling sunlight, an old lady was sitting on an armchair with a violet parasol. Her pals were chatting with each other in a group under cool shade. Why was she so detached from the group? I wondered. She looked as though recalling her memories around this old building. An old Korean pop song with guitar melodies was heard, and a fresh fragrant of Korean dogwood fruits was all around. 

 캐나다 밴쿠버에 머무는 동안 Vnacouver urban sketchers 에 참여하였습니다.  

가을이 물씬한 퀸엘리자베스 공원에서 짧은 영어지만 나름대로 즐겁게 어울렸습니다. 

돌아가는대로 서울을 열심히 그려볼랍니다.

 지난 일요일, 어린이 대공원에서 스케치 모임을 가졌습니다.

어린이 대공원은 동물원, 식물원, 놀이공원, 숲이 어우러진 

종합선물세트 같은 곳이었어요.

그릴 것이 정말 많아서 재밌었습니다~!

Last Sunday, we had a drawing at Children's Grand Park.
Children's Grand Park is a combination of zoos, botanical gardens, amusement parks, and forests. 
It was like a gift set.
It was fun because there were so many things to draw!

Urban Sketch Journey at the Seoul Children’s Grand Park with USK Seoul !

Situated in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul Children’s Grand Park houses various facilities for families, including a zoo, botanical garden, amusement rides, and diverse performance events within a vast area. Opened on Children’s Day (May 5) in 1973, the park is full of attractions that appeal to children and the young-at-heart. It was renovated on Children’s Day 2009 to repair old and worn facilities. It became an even more spacious and pleasant park thanks to the renovation work. 

Last Saturday, It was great weather to draw many many things in Seoul Children’s Grand Park which is huge place with various 52 places for children and family. I have enjoyed drawing in front of Palkakdang(팔각당) and garden cafeteria with USK Seoul. Here are some my paintings ..

Urban Sketcher meeting was held in Seoul Children’s grand park last Saturday. The weather was perfect for sketching. Many children and families were enjoying their morning at the playground. It’s a shame that I could not express the laughter of the children in the sketch drawing. We sketched families who spend leisurely afternoons in an outdoor music hall. Beautiful and peaceful autumn welcomed us after long summer that was exceptionally hot! It was a very thankful day.

Last Saturday, it was a nice day with the blue sky in autumn. We Seoul urban sketchers met at an attractive park in downtown to sketch together. Located in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul Children's Grand Park (서울 어린이대공원) is a large park with a zoo, botanical garden, amusement park, and diverse performance events for the families with children. The park is full of attractions appealing to all ages, and many events take place at the park throughout the year. It was a weekend, so the park was full of families with kids, young people enjoying the weekend, and lots of citizens including some foreign tourists all day long. For a long time I've sketched numerous colorful scenes changing over the years in this park.  Every time I visit the park, I used to look for something new subject not sketched before. I had a pleasant sketch time in a dreamlike children's park with a thankful heart. Love the fantastic amusement park and the liveliness of Seoul!

수십 년에 걸친 공원시설과 환경이 조금씩 변해가면서
그때그때마다 시절 따라 생생한 모습을 그리는 것은...
마치 우리 생활상을 담은 기록같이 소중한 작업입니다.

숲과 주변빌딩, 동식물원과 힐링 산책로, 어린이 놀이동산,
가족쉼터와 각종 이벤트 공간들은 스케치 소재가 넘쳐납니다.
도시의 분주한 일상을 잠시 떠나 가족들의 꿈과 희망을 안고
태양을 마시며 생기발랄하고 활기차게 뛰노는 동심의 세계는
어반 스케쳐의 빼놓을수 없는 "상설 스튜디오"라 하겠습니다.
