in hospital - from the archives
On 2001, my mother-in-law was hospitalized for two months for dementia. While she was sleeping I sksetched the interior or exterior scenes of hospital. She died two years later. Yesterday I took my mother to hospital for some examination. Being a while in hospital made me think about life and getting old. Posting this drawing I miss her.

Dear Heavenly Father,
as I enter my retirement years, help me to see not an ending but a new beginning. For now I haver more of the precious time.
Time to feel the morning breeze,to hear the midday quiet, to see Your radiant sunsets.
To experience a blooming wildflower or a graceful bird in flight.
Time to explore talent and all kinds of interests.
Time to be with people I care about and to meet new people as well.
But most important of all, dear Father,
Time to spend in fellowship with You,talking with you and reading Your holy Word.Grant that I may be blessed with health and a desire to use my wisdom and experience to help others grow.
May these years truly be the most golden of my life, and may they be dedicated to Your glory.Amen.

about labelling(라벨 쓰기)
(When you post sketches you can see the blank at the bottom. If you write your name, visitors can see your postings in a rolling paper by clicking your name in labels of right side bar. There are labels such as pen, watercolor, park in side bar. If you post sketches about foreign countries, cities, islands except Seoul you can write them. Of course you can add Seoul if the drawing was made in Seoul. Therefore it will be recommended to add labels such as sketcher's name, city, medium, or special location.)

at Sinchon
(Yesterday on the way home after survey for sketch crawl at Ewha woman's university with Kim Mi-kyung, I could see the steep stairs at an alley. The village was at Sinchon where several famous universities located. So always the sidewalks were crowded with young students, village people, and passengers. The village seemed not all new. There old houses, newly built motels and shopping stores were mixed. The steps of the steep stairs were narrow and the handrails were not straight at all because they were adjusted to the original shape of the location. That irregular features of handrail and steep stairs caught my eye. I sketched sitting on the stone bollard in the evening sun. I felt happy while drawing.)

The 23rd World Wide Sketchcrawl in Seoul

View from my window
A hot summer day in Seoul.

At Sibum apartment, Yongsan
(Last sunday I caught this scene at Yongsan, Seoul, where I had looked for the newly-wed house over thirty years ago. I wondered whether the features of the village were as same as before. Many high-rising apartments were there instead of old 5-6 story apartments. In this apartment there were placards of the pros and cons on the wall about the matter-redevelopment. The first story of six story apartment was used for stores such as eating houses, groceries, and repairing shop. The big ducts in the back side of the store caught my eye. Some ducts were upward to the roof of the building. It was so hot that sweats ran down my back all the while I was drawing. )

73X60 watercolor
Yongmeori Coast(Dragon Head Coast) in Jeju island
This Coast is historic spot the Netherlander, Hendrick Hamel and his shipmates landed 350 years ago .When sketching, I was absorbed in thinking such sufferings as we can not even imagine. His name and mental heritage will stay forever in our Korean history.

Hamel Monument in Jeju island
On the way of 'Olle' trekking I arrived at the coast (द्रगों हेड)and sketched Hamel Monument under the skirt of Sanbang-san mountain. This monument was erected On 1980 in memory following historical fact .........On August 16th ,1653 the Netherlands ship, De Sperwer , was lost in a storm and landed on the coast (Dragon Head) with Hendrick Hamel and his shipmates aboard. After staying 13 years in Korea,Hamel returned to the Netherlands to write the first description of Korea ever published in the West.

apartment at Ilsan city
Last May I used to go to Ilsan city for learning to play the musical instrument. Because I arrived there sooner by 30 minutes, I tried to capture the shiny scene. The two story building was for shopping stores. The institute I registered located on the second floor of the shopping store building. Ilsan city is a satellite city of Seoul and well planned for people to live. Especially, the Lake-park is famous for the jogging people taking one or two hours all around the lake. Though I had quitted to go there I miss the walking course laid among the apartments.

Welcome to USk Seoul
I'm delighted to announce that Yoo Byung-hwa, who has been a correspondent for USk since last December, will be running this Seoul blog, our first city blog in Asia. I'm sure her talent and passion for sketching will make this a very successful venture. Thanks Byung-hwa!
Here's Byung-hwa introduction of Seoul:

Here's Byung-hwa introduction of Seoul:
"Seoul is one of the biggest cities in the world. With a long history over 600 years as a capital through Lee dynasty it experienced many historical events. Now it has very complex shapes with traditional and contemporary buildings and streets. Starting this new blog, sketchers who love to sketch on the spot will show various scenes in our city. People, buildings, hidden streets and everything in life may be shown here. We hope that we'll be a bridge for a better world by sharing the drawings with warm hearts." —Yoo Byung HwaGabriel Campanario
