It was raining all day. I walked from Sajik Park to Gwangwhamun sketching the above ones. A pretty pot of flower imported rose moss caught my eye. While sketching the owner of the flower shop came out to see. Because I'd lived over 30 years in that village not far from the shop we talked about redevelopment, the old bakery, old doctor whom I had frequented for curing of my kids and I heard that he died after moving out the village. National flags hung on the building for celebrating the Independence Day of Korea were touching; the colors looked vivid due to the rain.

A brave new sketcher on the spot at Seodaemun Prison History Hall, Seoul

Euh Jin, sketch on A 4 sketchbook, pencil

Today it's the Independence Day of Korea. YH Lee and I went to Seodaemun Prison History Hall celebrating the day. I was surprised at seeing a lot of visitors and touched by their patriotic spirits. While we were sketching some, a woman, Euh Jin, came and showed much interest in sketching. We talked about sketches and could know how she'd been eager to sketch like us. I suggested her to sketch on my sketchbook immediately on the spot. She did without any hesitation. Her work took 1 hour and 25 minutes. She promised to join us from September if possible. Another high school girl student showed interest too. By sketching on the spots we may spread the culture of sketching in a win-win way.

Once in a while, I attempt to sketch in monochrome. To simplify the color may be uninteresting, but the trial is useful in many ways, for instance, to make an experiment in complete control of value, to experience a particular impression of the dominant color, and so on. I like such a good potentiality of the monochrome.

at Namsan Library Gallery

After sketching some at the Myungdong Cathedral Church I visited the Pyunghwa Gallery in Catholic Center. I could see the SHONA exhibition(Aug. 10 - Aug. 23). Exhibited works from Zimbabwe were really great.  Hope you to visit there if possible. I took some photos for reference.
