#38th World Wide SketchCrawl in Seoul, Korea

We, Seoul sketchers, have met at the National Palace Museum of Korea.
At the time there is an special exhibition of  Late Princess Deokhye.
She lived a very tragic life. We can see very many things about her and history at that time.
I feel really sorry for her tragic life. She suffered all things because of her status, royal family member of Korean Empire, princess. I became emotional.
I realized that it's not the old history but only about 24 years ago.
Here are some quick paintings with pen and  warer color and Galaxy note 2.

Late Princess Deokhye's dress when she was about 6.
Her little adorable dresses bring us sadness.

It was not cold rather than we had expected. Lots of citizen including children visited the National Palace Museum of Korea located inside the Gyungbokgung.  Special exhibition "Late Princess Deokhye" was on show apart from the permanent exhibition of royal family's clothes, vehicles, furniture, and musical instruments, and so on. Six sketchers participated in including a new comer Kim Goo Young who was very enthusiastic in sketching. Thank you all the participants, especially, our old friend Kim Mi-kyung. Hope to see you and your great drawings often!

Dongdaemun Gate (1398~), originally called Heunginjimun, is located at Jongno-gu in downtown Seoul. Its surroundings are attractive  and so good to look around. This area is a good place to see the interesting and colorful sceneries including a portion of Cheonggyecheon River. Lots of clothing stores and fantastic buildings have brightened up the cityscape around Dongdaemun Gate. Especially Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP), the world-famous architecture, is expected to be completed in July, 2013.
Though it was so cold and windy, I sketched the colorful sceneries immersing myself in our country culture around the most historic treasure.

sketching with Stephen Kopp on Jan. 9th, 2013

Happy New Year!

Stephen Kopp who has been sketching with Seoul Urban Sketchers for years came to Seoul this winter. We'll have a meetup at Doota Building located near Dongdaemun Great Gate on Jan. 9th, 2013. Hope to meet you at 7th floor, Food court on 10 : 30 am. See you soon!

sketches at shopping mall

at the FILA shop in Home Plus, World Cup stadium branch, pencil, watercolor, 13 x 17 cm

Pho Tai(Vietnamese Noodle Soup & Asian Food Restaurant) at the 7th floor of the DOOTA building
pen, watercolor, 19 x 25.5 cm

It was too cold to sketch outside these days. I took chances to sketch inside. Food court, shopping mall, and department stores are good for sketchers. Mannequin seems artificial but looks fashionable. I just thank for the space.
